Man Allegedly Kills Ferret He Took On Plane Police: Man Allegedly Beat Ferret To Death In Airport Bathroom

ST. LOUIS -- An American Airlines passenger brought a ferret on his flight today then allegedly beat the animal to death in a St. Louis airport restroom.

American Airlines spokewoman Julia Bishop-Cross said the passenger was turned over to airport police.

She said the man was traveling from New York to Phoenix, with a layover in St. Louis.

When his flight crew realized the man improperly carried a ferret on board in a cooler, they told him he would not be allowed to take the animal on his next flight.

Bishop-Cross said American offered to take the ferret to the Humane Society, but the man declined. Police say he tried to drown the animal in a toilet, and when they did not work he allegedly beat the creature to death.

The man's name and pending charges were not released Friday.

All the jokes aside. Did the airport screeners at his point of origin check the contents of the cooler? If they did, are they employees of the TSA? Shouldn't employees of the TSA know the regulations for having animals on board aircraft?

Off-topic but what is the fascination with some people of having rodents for pets? I know a couple of people who had them and they are some of the nastiest pets you could imagine. You had to keep them locked up in a cage all day or else they'd gnaw the furniture and get into other mischief. I wouldn't have one in the house if you paid me. BTW, I don't like cats that much either but I have one for the sole purpose of keeping rodents OUT of the house.

And please don't reply by saying a ferret isn't a rodent. It's close enough to a rodent for me.

That's not true Sam..I had one in College. He was very cool...Would curl in my bed at night, actually got him "trained" to use a litter box...He was coming along great, until a room mate came home drunk and left the front door open..I'd get another in a heartbeat if the wife wouldn't freak out..
