2/05/03

Posted on 02/05/2003 1:09:51 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Thank you, VRWCMember, for today's WFTD!

To be honest, I had never even heard of the show until someone commented Monday afternoon it seemed like it was going to be an anti-smoker love fest type episode.

I was involved in attempting to install and get properly working a new modem and never even thought to turn the TV on!!!

A friend of mine commented that he taped it, so I guess the next time I'm up in Philly I'll get to watch it - unless of course he's kind enough to send me a copy ;-)

but it is nice to know I'm being thought of!!!!!!

A doctor made it his regular habit to stop off at a bar for a
hazelnut daiquiri on his way home. The bartender knew of his habit, and would
always have the drink waiting at precisely 5:03 p.m. One afternoon, as
the end of the work day approached, the bartender was dismayed to find that
he was out of hazelnut extract. Thinking quickly, he threw together a
daiquiri made with hickory nuts and set it on the bar. The doctor came
in at his regular time , took one sip of the drink and exclaimed, "This
isn't a hazelnut daiquiri!" "No, I'm sorry", replied the bartender, "it's a
hickory daiquiri, Doc."

Doh!

I misread "nice red noses" as "nice red roses" and thought roses and wigs might be some kind of valentine gift or something.

UNBELIEVABLE!!

Well, on second thought, sadly, maybe it's not so unbelievable, is it? How many need to die before Teddy's convinced? I wonder if any lefty has ever read any 20th century history or has any knowledge at all about human nature, especially re bullies like Saddam. I'm reading Churchill's WWII books, and the pre-war pacifism and handwringing and delaying and reliance on the useless League of Nations is a carbon copy of what the lefties are pulling now. I'm sure today's pacifists have less noble motives that they did in the wake of WWI (today's just want to dump on the U.S. more than anything), although I don't think true pacifism is noble, just childish and moronic.

Here's Churchill on Prime Minister Baldwin re what to do about sanctioning Mussolini for invading Abyssinia: "It was not until several months after the elections that I began to understand the principles upon which Sanctions were founded. The Prime Minister had declared that Sanctions meant war; secondly, he was resolved there must be no war; and, thirdly, he decided upon Sanctions. It was evidently impossible to reconcile these three conditions." (No kidding, nice sarcasm there, Winston!)

You come to Vancouver. Your "deportment" and the types and quantities of beer you bring will bear heavily on the decision whether or not you get "inducted". (Hah! I've never heard it called THAT before...). Oh, yeah, in case you didn't know, I've always been the head mucky-muck of this religion, being it's founder. Now where did I put that list of tenets???
