Jimmy Carter says that President Bush has not made the case for war.

The United States and Great Britain, according to British dispatches, have given Iraq six more weeks - time that will be used to convince skeptical Arab countries and France to get on board for military action.

Satellite pictures indicate activity at the Yongbyon nuclear facility in North Korea showed that state may be about ready to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons.

And President Bush has signed a directive, the Washington Times is reporting, that allows nuclear weapons to be used in response to biological or chemical attacks.

I had F&F on early this morning, (about 6:00 AM central) and there was a priceless exchange between Julian Phillips and White House correspondent Wendall Goler. Goler had just finished his report from the WH lawn, mostly on the President's speech yesterday. Phillips asked a longwinded question about the response to the President's speech.

It went something like this: "Wendall, everyone remembers the message that Ronald Regan made to the nation following the Challenger disaster. These speeches to the nation are extremely important, what has been the response to the President's speech yesterday?"

Wendall Goler: I don't think I understand, do you mean the response at the White House?

Phillips: What was the response to the president's speech?

Wendall Goler (visibly irritated): I don't know what you are asking me.

Phillips: (after an uncomfortable silence) OK, we'll come back to you later.

I sure hope Roger Ailes saw that, because it truly proved the incompetance of Julian Phillips, asking a nonsensical question to a WH correspondent. Goler would have none of it, and put Julian right in his place!

Ha! I saw that! Mr. Marple was still in bed, or the objects would have been flying, and Roger Ailes would have received yet another e-mail from him! Hubby got so mad at Phillips two weeks ago that he actually sent Ailes a long e-mail suggesting Phillips be given an afternoon slot during the week (so Mr. Marple doesn't have to see him) if they were determined to keep him. LOL!

INHO, Roger needs to be paying attention to more than stupid questions. I clicked to CNN at 10:00 am cst yesterday, and finally got some real time news about what was going on.

As much as I detest the libs at CNN, I will give them the credit they deserve for being 'Johnny on the Spot' with breaking news.

Once the war breaks out, CNN's numbers are going to soar, and Fox will flop.

Fox has been quietly moving a lot of reporters overseas. I think they are on a stealth program to be ready for the war.

Unfortunately, they did not have many people available in the Texas area because of this. When I saw that John Gibson had been pressed into service this morning, I realized that all the correspondents are now overseas, including (shudder) Geraldo.

The problem Fox has is that it doesn't have as many agreements with local affiliates, so when something like this happens, they have fewer resources to use.

I think they will succeed in the war coverage, because they noticed they were weak in the Afghanistan campaign (why they hired Harrigan away from CNN) and have been getting more reporters ever since.

#245...We had a priest once who did nothing spontaneous. All his intentions and prayers were approved by the pastoral administrator who was a woman who liked her authority made known. The same priest was not allowed to say for whom the Mass was offered. Strange little parish.

Oh well, overslept a tad so, maybe I deserved it. Woke up for 'emergency' puroses about 2, fliped the flicker a couple of times (shuttle reruns), got me a VERY old movie, watched it, went back to sleep. I assure you, they don't make movies like they use to, right?

Being I am late this A.M. I have got to go and 'prep' for church, I know our preach will really preach a good sermon today of the shuttle blowing up, he normally does when something happens.

See ya'll in a bit, after church going to Chinese food joint for some 'fried lice', er meant to say rice. This place has one heck of a selection, the best on the coast.

My wife and I made the decision to stay home rather than risk icy roads on our way back from Appleton. (We were set to go to the afternoon performance of the Broadway production of Mama Mia in Appleton.)Better to be safe than sorry...

Yes... I was quite surprised that he didn't mention the Columbia at all yesterday. Next time I see him I will ask why.

Strange little parish, indeed.

We attended Mass last night at a Parish 30 miles from our home. A lovely tribute to our fallen heros was given. The 24 y.o. man/child just walked out the door to catch the late Mass. I instructed him to pay special attention to the Prayers of the Faithful, and report back to me the topics.

Impending weather event is headed our way. I can feel it in my bones (shoulder joint & knees)

I got just a sec so, after church I am going to Lowes and get me a dryer vent, the one I have went through WW2 I think, sheesh, it crubled when I touched it. Bout through cleaning my attic, the treasure hunt for sure, and hope to get some more of it this P.M. my s-i-l said he would help me which means not much more looking thru the boxes and yes, yesterday I found my old carbide lamp and cap, the one I use to hunt coons with, still looks like it is useable, will be a keeper for sure. Just the bigger stuff I have to get down. If and when I sell this thing I will tell the buyer let me load the furniture and it is his, the bad stuff will have been taken care of. Se ya and this time I AM off to church.

My aunt and uncle stored so much stuff in their attic/upstairs that one spring my aunt had my uncle pull up under the upper window. she opened it and just started throwing out big stuff. Broken lamps, broken chairs, lot's of baskets. Looked so funny to drive down the road and see all this stuff flying out the window. She kept her treasures of course, but the junk was long gone.

How have you been doing with all this traveling and strange beds to sleep in? Isn't that hard on your back/neck?

My cortizone shot wore off after close to 3 weeks. Or else I re-injured my shoulder. Anyway it's back to hurting regularly. I was so in hopes the shot would work.

Bummer about your cortizone shot. Have you tried Joint-Ritis? It only does temporary relief, but certainly does the trick for me after the 3rd application.

I have a little hotel room I stay in night after night while I'm on the road. Same room, night after night. Another week or two and it will feel like home. I use this little space as my "Base" and move about from meeting to meeting from there.

Fog is moving in here. I need to get my income taxes ready for hubby to take with him to the accountant tomorrow, then I will pack up and head out. I'm not getting any closer to being ready to go by sitting here,,, *digging down to find my self dicipline*.

Reprint of Reagan's speech relating to the Challenger disaster:

January 28, 1986 from the Oval Office

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd planned to speak to you tonight to report on the state of the Union, but the events of earlier today have led me to change those plans. Today is a day for mourning and remembering. Nancy and I are pained to the core by the tragedy of the shuttle Challenger. We know we share this pain with all of the people of our country. This is truly a national loss.

Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But, we've never lost an astronaut in flight; we've never had a tragedy like this. And perhaps we've forgotten the courage it took for the crew of the shuttle; but they, the Challenger Seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs brilliantly. We mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe. We mourn their loss as a nation together.

For the families of the seven, we cannot bear, as you do, the full impact of this tragedy. But we feel the loss, and we're thinking about you so very much. Your loved ones were daring and brave, and they had that special grace, that special spirit that says, 'Give me a challenge and I'll meet it with joy.' They had a hunger to explore the universe and discover its truths. They wished to serve, and they did. They served all of us.

We've grown used to wonders in this century. It's hard to dazzle us. But for twenty-five years the United States space program has been doing just that. We've grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we've only just begun. We're still pioneers. They, the members of the Challenger crew, were pioneers.

And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of America who were watching the live coverage of the shuttle's takeoff. I know it is hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like this happen. It's all part of the process of exploration and discovery. It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons. The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave. The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them...

There's a coincidence today. On this day 390 years ago, the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, 'He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it.' Well, today we can say of the Challenger crew: Their dedication was, like Drake's, complete.

The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.'

Right now he's up in NH climbing some and in RI. Makes me nervous anytime he's on one, but especially in the winter.
