Continuing saga----

Our Family Member had her interview with the SS today. (She is 7 hours ahead of our Central Time.) She felt it went sort of OK.

I don't know if I mentioned that after the incident happened, she joined the Federal employees union--something she previously had not been intending to do. They immediately provided her with a lawyer, for which she has been very grateful. This lawyer just told her that in the 10 years of this work, she has never had a case like this. (Oh, great!)

After everybody hung up except FM & the SS agent in charge of the inquiry, he told her that the situation had been aggravated by a culture conflict--between State Dept & SS. The female SS agent, after speaking to FM, had emailed that there were no witnesses to the incident claimed by Chelsea & that FM didn't appear to be a threat. However, when FM did what was required by State & immediately notified a superior, who then called SS & said what's up, this girl is not a security problem, then SS gets their feathers ruffled & says you can't tell us how to do our job.

State is fairly flexible if you tell them everything about yourself. She would have lost her job if she had not notified her employers about this situation. But Secret Service feels that no one else has a right to speak to them about their work. (Sigh)

She also found out & is VERY upset that X42 lied about his confrontation & said that she made a series of statements & said ugly things to him--that she hated him & a bunch of other emotionally negative statements. (She told me that if she were to have said those things, she would have said them in a much more succinct & pithy manner than he reported!) Apparently, he said she refused to shake his hand, but he never offered his hand.

The SS has more to do. I don't know when they will close their investigation. Of course, she had to give her immediate family's names, addresses, ph #s, & lots of personal info.

State Dept holds its own inquiry next month regarding her suitability to retain clearance & her professional abilities.

She doesn't understand how people can lie so horribly & readily. And people believe them against their own eyes & all other evidence.

She is severely depressed right now--sleeping too much & eating everything, crying a lot. She is rational & knows she shouldn't be doing this. But it is a natural reaction, especially for someone who has high hopes & aspirations, is an inspired & praised worker, and is of good character--much better character than many of the people she has encountered.

Thank you for all your concern.

Thank you for sharing all of that with us. It must be terribly difficult for your family member to go through all of this. The good thing is that she has a clean conscience, something that is a powerful weapon in this kind of fight.

We're making paper boats now so that by tomorrow or Saturday, if the creek is still up, we can sail our boats.
