In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
obdurate\OB-du-rit; OB-dyu-rit\, adjective:
1. Hardened in feelings, especially against moral or mollifying influences; unyielding; hard-hearted; stubbornly wicked.
2. Hard; harsh; rugged; rough; intractable.
Etymology: Obdurate is from Latin obduratus, past participle of obduro, obdurare, to be hard against, from ob-, intensive prefix + durus, hard.
Synonyms: Hard; firm; unbending; inflexible; unyielding; stubborn; obstinate; impenitent; callous; unfeeling; insensible; unsusceptible.
Usage: Obdurate, Callous, Hardened. Callous denotes a deadening of the sensibilities; as, "a callous conscience." If you look in the dictionary under "obdurate" you will see a picture of Saddam Hussein. No matter what the evidence, he never gives in. When inspectors tried to interview the Iraqi scientists, they were given the runaround. If the interview had been scheduled for the afternoon, Saddam sang out, "Morning!" If the interview was set for the morning, Saddam chanted, "Evening." I guess he is holding their families as hostages, and once he has found them, he'll never let them go.

"The Daschle-Democrats are on the war path on the
economy. They are crassly rooting against a recovery, and
they are working like armies of wood ants behind the scenes
to erode any and all of President Bush's economic initiatives
including most prominently his bold tax cut plan. Anything
that would hasten an economic growth revival before the
2002 elections, they reflexively oppose."
Demorcrats are quite obdurate
And they continue to berate,
But Bush's new man,
And economic plan,
Will help keep America great.
