Lord of the Rings:
Return of the King!
Pictures, spy reports and spoilers thread (ongoing)
Countdown to December!
Larger version of above image here
Beyond this point there be spoilers!
Like spoilers? Keep reading!
Don't want spoilers? Click HERE and don't look back!
Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of RoTK news, photos and interviews come rolling in.
I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.
I will start a "RoTK spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists
so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)
Report 'em if you got 'em!
One tip
.. Don't embed images from TORN (TheOneRing.Net) on this thread. If possible, load the image to another server, or just post a link to the TORN page. TORN's servers are powered by fleas I think, and are horrendously slow, particularly when they have something that is particularly good!

Major Spoiler potential!!!! warning
I read the queries on the Torn site, about the trailer. One person speculates about the Witch King turning Shadowfax into a dragon and that is what he is riding. How wretched, how awful. But if Jackson did that, I personally think it is a great talent to capture the gist of what it is evil does. Evil enslaves all pride, and rides it.

I don't know. I spoke before I looked to make sure. :(
That's why I qualified it as - in other such speeches he does work from the books. Even if it is something said by someone else, and somewhere else. Those powerful addresses are usually found somewhere. :)

Try and pause that shot, and you'll see the rays of light coming from the left side of the screen.

Just saw the trailer. Film looks great though I cringed during the Aaragon "address." That sort of scene has been parodied to DEATH. Besides one is curious as to when he would give it. I was under the impression that the march to the black gates was a somber affair overlaid with a sense of doom rather than something that got the blood up.

My thoughts on the Aragorn speech;
If you would like to know
{quote}I was under the impression that the march to the black gates was a somber affair overlaid with a sense of doom rather than something that got the blood up.{/quote}
It is their doom and they all know it. So Aragorn told them to shape up and don't even think about failing personally, He is telling his soldiers that he knows and feels the same way.
I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me-
I feel your fear/pain, And I wouldn't lead you here to die if it wasn't the only way.
A day may come when the courage of men fails -
Were not going to blow it again (like Isldur)
when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of Fellowship- Flashback to the Numenorians who allied themselves with Sauron, That was dumb We have already lost much, don't fail now!
But it is not this day, this day we fight We are going to restore our honor, our country, and our freedom.
Basically the King, Christ/Aragorn has returned, Men will act with honour and courage. They will fight to restore all they have lost, Adam/Isldur failed I Christ/Aragorn, WIll restore you, I will make it right.
This day we Fight!

I was under the impression that the march to the black gates was a somber affair overlaid with a sense of doom rather than something that got the blood up.I'm assuming that speech of Aragorn's was done before the battle of the Pellenor Fields. I was thinking I could see Minas Tirith in the backgroud.

Strange it worked the first time, but not know.
Their really awsome, but missing a few I would have liked to see more than the others.

When would he have time to give such a speech alongside the riders of Rohan? If M.T. was under siege when they and then he arrive it would seem odd to halt, give a pep talk and then fight while a battle was already ongoing.

That's what I'm thinking, Kantian.
Unless, PJ decides to eliminate the Corsairs of Umbar scene, and has Aragorn arrive before the extrement hits the fan.

Not sure if this is confirmed or not but its been said that the Corsairs scene HAS been removed with Aaragon and the ghosts going instead directly into the battle of M.T. HOTD, that sound familiar? If true then when can Aaragon make that address?

But...how would they get there quick enough?
Unless PJ plays with the time-line of events.
I'm not sure that would work out well. The Muster of Rohan would lose some of it's potency. Unless...Aragorn arrives first, and Rohan comes "to the rescue".
Man...I hate thinking about the variables!! lol

Of course, his "rally speech" was just a voice-over in the trailer. He could say it after the battle of Minas Tirith, before they decide to march on Mordor. That way, the timeline of Aragorn's and Rohan's arrivals at MT could still be pure.
Think about it...they've just been through a massive battle, they're all tired and wounded. His speech could give them the kick in the pants they need in order to bring the fight to the enemy.
Maybe?
