In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
roister\ROY-stur\, transitive verb:
1. To engage in boisterous merrymaking; to revel; to carouse.
2. To bluster; to swagger
Etymology: Roister is probably from Middle French rustre, "a boor, a clown; clownish," from Latin rusticus, "rustic," from rus, "country."

i have NEVER been called to jury duty! I have been, once. As soon as I asked the Judge to explain Jury nullification, I was excused.

And he wasn't very polite when he did it, either.

I have been, once. As soon as I asked the Judge to explain Jury nullification, I was excused. I'll have to remember that!

If that doesn't work, ask the judge why there isn't an American Flag in the courtroom. Most courtrooms have an admiralty flag with gold fringe. According to Title 4 1(1)USC the official US Flag doesn't have a gold fringe. Make sure you have a copy of the law or you could be cited for contempt for that one.
To: CholeraJoe
I saw that done on "King of the Hill"

Four or so years ago there was a whole thread on FR on how to get out of jury duty.
To: CholeraJoe
why won't they call me? i am dying to be called.
the only calls i am not irritated with in the evening, are the ones soliciting my opinion on political issues. i had one last night, asking my opinion on potential senatoral candidates for VA. the guy called back a second time to get my first name, both times xsbrownie answered the phone. the phone rang again later and it was the contractor calling about finishing the basement, again xsbrownie answered it and said loudly to me, right into the phone, IT IS THAT SAME GUY AGAIN, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME TONIGHT! i died laughing!

Maybe you'll get a summons for the Malvo trial.
To: CholeraJoe
oh wow, would that ever be cool. xshub has never been called either. we are either blacklisted or live in too highly populated an area. heck in MT, it is a wonder you aren't called once a month!

I was only called twice in LA but by the second time I was living out of state so I was excused. The first time two attorneys were called. They just checked in with the clerk, showed their Bar licenses and were excused.
To: CholeraJoe
well i think i told you about the appellate court judge who was called and sat. now of course alzheimers prevents me from recalling his name, but i heard him speak on the experience. it was a med malpractice case.
