Word For The Day, Tuesday 1/14/03
1/14/03

Posted on 01/14/2003 6:57:49 AM PST by Bella_Bru

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

roister\ROY-stur\, transitive verb:

1. To engage in boisterous merrymaking; to revel; to carouse.
2. To bluster; to swagger

Etymology: Roister is probably from Middle French rustre, "a boor, a clown; clownish," from Latin rusticus, "rustic," from rus, "country."

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

What, me channel dubs?

Nah. Must be someone else.

(Looks around for that expensive gift bottle of that latest Houston-brand of perfume that Rika was wearing, "Eue de Ship Channel No. 5")

Eala tries to find the bottle too.

Doesn't see Eue de Channel either.

(Funny, both of us can smell it though.)

Sorry Robert but I don't know that particular fragrance as I live no where near the channel. I am very partial to Shalimar if you would like to find me a bottle of that..

;-)

Channel Nbr 5 is more usually misspelt "Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwh" by proper and dignified Houstonians.

Rika, ion the other hand, just says, "Smells like money."

Then they are lucky. ALL the channels in Seattle are properly spelt "Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwh," including Channel No 5!

A Texas milestone:

1] The Texas House of Representatives today (01/14/03) swore in its first Republican Speaker of the House since 1870.

2] Likewise, Republicans hold the majority in BOTH the Texas House and Senate for the first time since 1870.

3] The number of Democrats holding a state-wide elected office in Texas remains at ZERO (as has been the case since 1998).

"I am very partial to Shalimare."

Sea? Told she didn't like goin' down too deep on a first date.

'Course, she does go down all the time in those narrow canyons and twisting passageways in the shallow wet areas near sunny beaches.

Dear Teacher and Teacher's Pet/Class Tattletale:

Wednesday (1/15), I must appear at the courthouse for jury duty. As I will be armed with the latest copies of National Review, The Weekly Standard, and the NRA magazine - all of which I will be reading conspicuously - it is probable that I will be discharged (or escorted out) by noon. Jury duty pays roughly $4 less than the parking will cost, and the lost time here at the home office will cost me at least $2 - maybe $3.

Anyway, don't even think about marking me absent or tardy.
You have been warned.

Lettuce try again, since the server is dying.

Wear a tie and "dressy" clothes. Defense lawyers in particular HATE a male wearing even a shirt and tie, much less a coat and tie.

DON'T wear blue jeans and casual clothes, even if a female, because you are IMMEDIATELY targetted as an "easy mark" and soft sell....though (perhaps) the prosecuter will will void you out.

My last jury summons: the prosecutors tuned EVERY minority in the pool until they ran out of "eliminates"; and the defense turned down EVERY while male until HTEY ran out of "eliminates."

Casually dressed white females (and minority/union males) were accepted every time, no rejects at all.
