Well, If I had it to do over again, I'd still take FDR's depression over Mr Hoover's recession...
It was a lot nicer getting back into a house and out of the tent along side the road...Watching my mother cook over an open fire, heating water on it to wash clothes in a tin tub, watching my father trying to dry my shoes oover it, sitting there with the snow coming down...
But then I'm just a senile old man who doesn't remember it all in the right way...
Also suppose it was a mistake for the US to get into WWII...There wouldn't have been the years of worrying about the USSR and Communism all over the world...Herr Adolph would have taken care of that...And there wouldn't be the trouble in the Near East...No Jewish State and the Muslims would love us....
Japan would have been tied down with China so we wouldn't be having problems in the Far East either..Just think too, no Toyotas, Nissans, cheap electronics...Damn FDR, he screwed up a perfect paradise...
Best of all I would have been spared all those moments of utter terror during WWII.....

I know you remember it better than I will ever know it.
I understand why people wanted FDR in, Hoover wasn't doing anything.
I know we did the right thing defeating the axis in WWII.

But I still think that if FDR and his brain trust had been as good as any recent president, including Bill Clinton, the depression/recession would have ended in 1934.
Well, not Jimmy Carter.

I read an interesting book awhile back, about the heroes of the cold war. One of the heroes was Churchill. FDR was NOT one of the heroes. There was quite a bit of information on FDR. It wasn't at all flattering. My mother has told me that they (meaning her family and herself) just hated FDR. Yes, we did the right thing defeating the axis, but Truman had to finish the job, and it took him a year to decide not to follow the policies of FDR.
