Amen sister! And for him to say; "I'm not sure we in America, certainly not white America and the people in the South, fully understood who this man was; the impact he was having on the fabric of this country." is so outrageous!

My mother taught me all about the plight of blacks in this country, all about what a great man King was and we got LOTS of instruction in school about King. And please keep in mind all of my schooling was here in the great state of Florida.

Lott has got to be at least 20 years older than myself, so if he's so stupid that he doesn't know about the kind of impact King had on the fabric of this country, he needs to step down as majority leader and then the people of Mississippi need to vote him out next election.

But we all know Lott is not stupid, he's just a plain ole LIAR!

Good-bye Lott!!!!

If this doesn't make republican leaders do something to take care of this whole mess Lott's made I don't know what will.

Even more criticism came from former President Bill Clinton. He said, "I think the way the Republicans have treated Senator Lott is pretty hypocritical since right now their policy is, in my view, inimical to everything this country stands for. They tried to suppress black voting, they ran on the confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina, and from top to bottom the Republicans supported it. So, I don't see what they're jumping on Trent Lott about. I think the Democrats would say we disagree with what he said, we don't think it's right, but that's the Republican policy. How do they think they got a majority in the south anyway?"

When Clinton was asked if Lott should leave office, he replied, "Well, I think that's up to them, but they can't do it with a straight face. How can they stand to jump on him when they're up there repressing, trying to run black voters away from the polls and running on the confederate flag in Georgia and South Carolina. I mean, look at their whole record. He just embarrassed them by saying in Washington what they do on the back roads every day." Link

If saying that Strom Thurmond should be president is a racist thing to say, and Strom Thurmond is a seperatist and racist, does that make all the people of North Carolina who vote for him a racist as well?

Only if you are a Republican. Fritz Hollings has made derogatory statements towards Hispanics, silence there from the left.

I'm not feeling dismayed. President has nominated some excellent people to work in his administration. President Bush goes on skill and competency for appointments, etc, not on diversity as the previous adminstration did. And if some of those skilled competent people come from the "big bad Establishment", so what? /rant

The war will probably be over well before the election, and the economy should be headed back up by then - I'm hoping and semi-predicting on both counts.

I don't get the Democrats. Bill Clinton's minions loused up the 2002 elections in the Senate, and Daschle is still going to appoint the Hildabeast to a high profile position? What is about the Clintons' siren song that has the Dems dashing themselves against the rocks time and time again?

Actress and activist Jane Fonda visits victims ofsuicide bombers (AND AFAFAT'S HEADQUARTERS)
Ha'aretz ^ | Last update - 19:18 19/12/2002 (Israel time) | By The Associated Press

Actress and activist Jane Fonda visited Israelis wounded in suicide bomb attacks and met with Israeli peace activists on Thursday.

Fonda, 64, is on a weeklong trip to the region and plans to attend meetings of Israeli and Palestinian women organized by a global movement to stop violence against women.

The movement, called V-day, was inspired by the off-Broadway hit "The Vagina Monologues" and its playwright, Eve Ensler, who is also in Israel.

Fonda and Ensler were to speak later Thursday to Jewish and Arab doctors and patients at Jerusalem's Hadassah Hospital after a performance of selected passages from "Monologues" put on by a group of Israeli women.

Earlier, Fonda, a two-time Oscar winner and fitness guru, visited Israelis recovering from chronic injuries at the hospital's rehabilitation center.

She appeared emotionally moved on meeting Sharon Maman, 23, who suffered brain damage after two suicide bombers blew up simultaneously in downtown Jerusalem on Dec. 1, 2001. The young man, who lay flat on his stomach on a hospital bed, only began speaking again three months ago.

Fonda listened as social workers at the hospital told her that violence against women has increased alongside Israeli-Palestinian battles and a worsening economy that has left many people jobless.

Fonda also met with Israeli activists from the group Peace Now at a Jerusalem restaurant, where a handful of right wing protesters shouted at her that she was betraying Israel by visiting peace activists.

On Saturday, Fonda is to visit the West Bank town of Ramallah to see a physical rehabilitation center, a Palestinian refugee camp and Yasser Arafat's headquarters complex, most of which has been destroyed by Israeli troops.

Hillary's Trent Lott Moment
Newsmax ^ | December 19, 2002 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 12/19/2002 3:41 PM EST by Paul Atreides

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton condemned Trent Lott late Wednesday, telling reporters that she could never vote for him to continue on as Senate Majority Leader after hearing his remarks about Strom Thurmond.

No doubt Lott is in a pile of trouble. But at least he didn't deliver his offending statement while adopting "a mock African-American accent," the way Hillary did - according to the Los Angeles Times - while addressing a group of supporters in Washington, D.C. a few years back.

On April 26, 1996, Mrs. Clinton was the star speaker at an Emily's List fundraiser, where she recounted an anecdote about San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.

The LA Times reported the next day:

"Speaking in a mock African American accent, Mrs. Clinton said that Brown asked two years ago to be introduced to 'this Emily List' whom he supposed to be a wealthy Democratic donor."

According to the Times quote, Hillary's speech pattern was more suitable for an old Amos n' Andy broadcast than a politically correct fundraiser.

"She's supportin' all these people," Clinton huffed while poking fun at Brown's ignorance. "She's supportin' Sen. Dianne Feinstein . She's supported Sen. Barbara Boxer . . . . She supported everybody. Why won't she support me?"

The then-first lady told the group that when she explained to Brown, then California's Assembly speaker, that Emily's List was a political fund-raising organization dedicated to electing female Democrats, he tried to cover up his gaffe.

"Oh, I knew that all the time," she quoted Brown as saying.

Sounding steamed over the racially offensive remarks, Brown spokesman P.J. Johnson told the Times afterwards, "The mayor is well aware of what Emily's List is."

But by the time the San Francisco Examiner caught up with him a few days later, Johnson was toeing the party line.

Asked if the mayor objected to Hillary's using a mock black accent to tell a story about Brown's ignorance, Johnson told the paper that his boss hadn't heard the speech himself.

But he added, "It depends on how she said it. The mayor's not a real uptight person. If Hillary was in good humor, it wouldn't be a problem."

Frank Wilkinson, press aide for Emily's List, told the Examiner that Clinton delivered her Willie Brown quotes not in a black accent, as characterized by the Los Angeles Times, but "in a Willie Brown accent. She was imitating Willie Brown."

Her story was "very funny," Wilkinson insisted. "There was great deal of appreciation for Mayor Brown in the warm way in which the first lady told it."
