The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

That was a funny scene. But you're right. Our little one turns 3 next month, but he repeats EVERYTHING!

When I reacted to him saying "shut up" my wife informed me he heard it from me yelling at the dog to stop barking.

I know!! Apparently, Joshua has heard me comment about people I've seen wandering out into oncoming traffic and assumed that I was referring to everyone that might be walking around near a rode. One day he say this guy walking down the sidewalk and commented very casually "Look at that moron."

My neice - she's in her 20s now, once got in trouble at home for calling a neighbor's mom a "streetwalker."

Her Mom asked her what she meant. She said, "Well, she gets dressed for work and walks down the street..."

Heh...

My good friends who adopted a baby from Romania a few years ago now.

They are an interesting couple. He is nearly 20 years older than she is, pushing 65 when she just turned 40. He has a good heart, but also uses some language he probably shouldn't use around anyone, especially a child... But he also doesn't censor himself for anyone (picture retired country sherrif).

They acknowledge often that she will outlive him (joking about it mostly)

The baby is now 5, and going to Catholic school next year. One day at home, she ran smack into a corner. Rather than tears, she said "%*&$* #$*&** #*&+&".

Without batting an eye, my friend said, "Bob, you have to promise me that you will stay alive long enough to explain this child's mouth to the nuns at her school."

My mom never asked. I once found out the very hard way that one does not say "Hor hor hor" instead of "Ha ha ha."

It was years before I found out why!

My mom has a friend (a minister's wife) that when her son was little heard her say the D word in the car...he went to church and told his Sunday school class to pray for his mother because she said the D word in the car!!

I forget how old I was, but I'd heard this joke at school:

Q: How to you keep a sex maniac in suspense?

A: I'll tell you tomorrow...

So at dinner that night I asked my brother if he was a sex maniac...

commented very casually "Look at that moron."

Yeah, 'little pitchers' and all that! Our 13 yr old is spouting all kinds of bad stuff about liberals and Democrats! Now where on earth do you think he'd get that kind of attitude? ;o)

My opinion on the "Sixth Sense"; wait a few years for your boys. It is pretty intense. You'd need to make it clear to the boys that the little boy never gets hurt by the stuff that's happening around him. You'd probably want to see it first, since you know your boys; there's a scene where it shows the back of a boys head, and he'd obviously shot himself because his head is all bloody. Another time, a little girl comes into the tent where the little boy is hiding and proceeds to throw up icky stuff. Her mother had poisoned her, and later it shows how that happened.

Our kids saw it when they were 11 and 13, and it was no big deal, after I'd explained about the little boy.

"Bob, you have to promise me that you will stay alive long enough to explain this child's mouth to the nuns at her school."

ROTFL!! Yeah, you have to be VERY careful what you say around little ones. We made a concerted effort to NOT curse around our kids, and as a result, they are clean mouthed; at least when they're in OUR house! But even our older boys friends know there are some things they CANNOT say. I've never had to warn them not to use the 'F' word, but I guess they figured it out early on because we never used it.

Dead silence?

No, I'm pretty sure my dad wasn't silent about it. I'm don't remember exactly what they said, but it left enough of an impression that I remember having dinner with my dad. After he started drinking pretty heavily, he stopped having dinner with the family. So memories of him at the table, until I was in high school and he had quit, are pretty rare.
