Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Torengos! Much better than Tostitos and they travel better! *grin*

aighhh...I'm heading off to the office too...not the happiest of things for me to do these days. Hope I come back in one piece. If I'm not back in a few hours, send the dwarves and Riders of Rohan out for me!
To: HairOfTheDog
RoTK better take it all! And after the big wins, they should give PJ a whole 15 minute Best Director segment.

I agree with not awarding them all... Hollywood is not going to let LoTR take over all the major awards for three consecutive years, and awarding only the first or second doesn't make sense, when looking at the whole.

Rose and I watched Signs again Saturday night, and only had our positive opinions of the movie reinforced. It is creepy, but for us the "real" story of a man finding his lost faith makes the movie very special.

Where is Gidget getting all these little green army men?

It is an odd kind of invasion, these men.... I have them lined up on my desk...
How many more are coming, I wonder?
To: HairOfTheDog
Have you ever seen the PC game "Army Men"? The original version came with two little plastic army men in the box (one tan, one green). I've had them standing on top of my monitor ever since.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I haven't "seen" it.... only seen of it!
Good idea for a game...
I saw a parade once that had guys in "green army men" costume... They looked just like the plastic guys! - did all the same poses!

Did you watch any of the extras? Night said that their first day of shooting was scheduled for 9/11/01 so they ended up postponing for two days and then the first scene they shot (after having a mini-candlelight vigil) was Mel's scenes with his wife at the accident.

Did you watch any of the extras?Yes, we watched them all. I was impressed once more with Mel Gibson... he seems to have avoided the swollen ego that is all-to-common with Hollywood stars.
There was a thread on FR about the movie, back when it was new in the theaters... there was some interesting speculation there regarding what the aliens *really* were, or at least what they represented. Some things about the aliens that don't make sense if they are aliens suddenly do make sense, if the aliens are not aliens at all, but are, say, demons.

Did any of them have giant fake firecrackers as part of their constume?

(I really wasn't the nasty kid in Toy Story)
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Did you really blow them up and melt them and stuff when you were a kid?
(I guess it is better than burning bugs.... I always had to save the bugs from the boys in the neighborhood)

SuperBowl goes LOTR1/20/03, 3:34 pm EST - Calisuri
Thanks to the various Tampa Bay Buccaneer (American) football fans who sent us the following link. Tampa Bay will be fighting to become 'The Lords of the Ring' this sunday at Superbowl XXXVII. Check out this highly creative flash animation at the official Tampa Bay website. [More] (PS - While I wasn't cheering for any particular team, this my lure me to the Bucs side - Calisuri)
The Must-See LOTR Cast Projects Of 2003: Part One
1/20/03, 2:38 pm EST - Strider
With the incredible success of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, many members of The Lord of the Rings cast have sensibly used their appearances in Peter Jackson's epic as a springboard for their movie careers. This year will see the actors and actresses we know and love so well as characters of Middle-earth appear in places such as Australia and Mexico as many of the LotR cast dabble in various genres, from action to drama to comedy. [More]
To: HairOfTheDog
Did you really blow them up and melt them and stuff when you were a kid?Well, yes... although they don't really blow up all that well. They do melt very nicely, slowly deforming into odd and disturbing shapes...
I never touched any of the neighborhood bugs though... so long as they stayed outside the house.
A cousin and I once filled a model ship with firecrackers and blew it up. Then, we took the surviving superstructure, doused it with gasoline, floated it in a tub of water and set it on fire. Our very own "disaster at sea" recreation...

The Buccs link is taking to long to load for me. :(
But thanks for the link to the other films. Lemme guess which one you will be seeing! *grin*
To: RMDupree
It is a cute little flash movie with a lord of the rings theme.... The super bowl ring!
