Then this morning I was driving down a road that we did Friday night and I started seeing phone books with no plastic on them lying -- mostly open -- in the middle of the driveways. I first thought someone or something had gotten into each one of ours and torn off the plastic, but then I saw a couple of houses that still had the books we dropped off, still in good shape.
Then a little later I saw a bunch of plastic piled in a ditch and it all became clear to me. Someone had gotten the books as they come, wrapped in a package of 18 with heavy plastic, taken off the plastic and dumped that in the ditch, then thrown them with no cover or anything onto the driveways. First of all, it's my route. Second, those houses had already been done. Third, they were extremely negligent about how they delivered them.
So when I reported back to base today to turn in leftover books and do the paperwork, I let them know what I saw. I hope someone gets nabbed for ripping off the company by basically dumping the books where they don't belong just to make a fast buck.

Remember me telling you that I delivered books once?
For the first few days everything went smoothly. I was driving my Chevy Chevette and delivering the books to the doors. Pulled up to this one house...got out of the car...walked toward the door..the lady of the house YELLS...."get back in your car...get back in your car!!!" Hard of hearing that I am I said, "what?"
Next thing I know this HUGE German Shepherd comes running from behind the house with the man of the house running after him. The dog IS going to attack me. I took the phone book....shoved it by the dog's mouth...the dog rips it...I beat feet it to my car....the dog runs after me....I get in the car...the window is open..the dog is almost eye level with me. I have never rolled a window up so fast in my life.
Meanwhile both the owners look at me while I motion to them and say...pointing to the ripped book..."There's your book!!"
Needless to say, I was a tad shaken, but I continue to the next house. While I pull into the driveway....2 Dobermans come to my car. I beep the horn. The owner comes out and says.."They won't hurt you." I explain to her what happened earlier. She tells me that the dog who attacked me is a guard/sentry dog.
Boy, was I ticked. What if that had been a child?
Now you know why I waited to tell you about my directory delivering experience.
Happy you completed your route...very happy you are in your new home....goats and all. :-)
