Various News Sources and FReepers | December 16, 2002 | All of Us

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Algore, the man who was bred to be President,
after being told he cannot win in 2004.

In other news:

New York City transit workers remain on the job, claiming progress is being made in contract negotiations.

The Coast Guard intends to deploy drone aircraft to keep watch in the Florida Straits.

Senator Nickles is calling for a new election for Senate Majority Leader. Word has it that Rove would prefer the Senate be led by Sen. Frist.

And UOx42 claims he wanted to attack North Korea in 1994 when it was revealed that Nation was pursuing nuclear weapons, unless Pyongang agreed to freeze operations.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

The king is dead. Long live the king.

Ok, so Algore is out and coverage is focusing on the remaining contenders. Just saw Carl Cameron say that because of Kerry's marriage, he has a "family fortune" that can be put into play, eliminate his need to fundraise, avoid FEC limits, etc. (I envision John Heinz just SPINNING in his grave!) .... however, I understood the Heinz fortune was Teresa's, not John's, and therefore, HER money could not legally be spent on HIS campaign.... that she is subject to the same campaign donation limitations as the rest of us.

Any experts on election law out there who can clarify?

Thanks for the clue about what to do with the shells. I'll make some fresh ricotta today and that's what we'll have for supper.

Seems a weird time for Gore to quit.

Neither of our morning papers - L. A. Times and Orange County Register (usually taking feed from AP or NY Times) have mentioned the elephant in the RATS living room. Does this mean that 97 is waiting to be drafted if she sees the President weakening?

What I find interesting in all of this is the lack of articles from the socialist press bemoaning the fact that Tree is no longer in the hunt for the White House.

Quite the opposite, in fact. They all seem overjoyed that he has finally opted out of the contest. Now, considering most of these outlets don't seem to know how to write one word of intelligence based on their own thinking, the opinions must have been generated elsewhere and filtered through their editorial staffs.

Where? The DNC comes to mind. And that is controlled by which group of people (I use the term loosely)?

Is my tin-foil hat properly tuned on this, or does it need adjustment?

I'm not an expert. But I do have some knowledge.

I believe any monies coming from an joint account are not limited. If Ole' John doesn't have access to a joint account he's gonna have to scrounge and beg like the common folks.

I believe funds from any of HER individual checking accounts would be subject to the normal rules.

Washer and dryer are moved, as are a bookcase, suitcases of clothes, and a few odds and ends. Back for another load, but first a bite to eat.

GC, you have this to look forward to, don't you? Like the monkey said when he got his tail caught in the lawnmower, "It won't be long now!"

Forgot to mention that our weather is absolutely gorgeous today, just perfect for moving. The ground's still pretty wet from some rainy days, but the sun is out and the temp is in the 50s, I think.

I have about 2 1/2 minutes today to check in and say "HI!"

I've only seen clips of the algore SNL idiocy and am very glad I didn't watch it.

Miss Marple.....we still have snow here, but it doesn't look too promising for us to have a white Christmas either.

Molly, have you had Fox on today?! They're doing a running report on how important OHIO is to gauge what the nation thinks........oh, yeah!!!

For those of you less enamored by global warming fallout, I offer this (sanitized) “journal” of an individual who had just moved to the Washington area from North Carolina and who endured our harsh winter of 1993-1994:

1/3/94 - 9:00 PM – It’s starting to snow. The first of the season and the first one we’ve seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rums and sat by the picture window watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful!!!

1/7/94 – We awoke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and shrub covered with a beautiful white mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in years and loved it. I did both the driveway and our sidewalk. Later a city snowplow came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shoveled it again.

1/11/94 – It snowed an additional 5 inches last night and the temperature has dropped to around 11 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shoveled our driveway again. Shortly afterwards the snowplow came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is now brownish-gray.

1/16/94 – Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon became ice when the temp dropped again. Bought snow tires for both cars. Fall on my [butt] in the driveway. $145 to a chiropractor, but nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected.

1/17/94 – Sooo cold. Sold the wife’s car and bought a 4 x 4 in order to get her to work. Slid into a guardrail anyway and did a considerable amount of damage to the right rear quarter-panel. Had another 10 inches of the white s$$$ today. Both vehicles covered in salt and crud. More shoveling in store for me today. That [gosh durned] snowplow came by twice today.

1/18/94 – Below zero outside. More [freakin] snow. Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn’t been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and nearly burned the house down. I managed to put the flames out, but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hand and lost all my eyelashes and eyebrows. Car slid on ice on way to emergency room and was totaled.

1/20/94 – [Gosh durned (expletive)] white s$$$ keeps on coming down. Have to put on all the clothes we own just to get to the [freakin] mailbox—and the mailman doesn’t deliver anyway. If I ever catch the son-of-a-[gun] that drives that snowplow, I’ll chew open his chest and rip out his heart. I think he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then comes down the street about 100 MPH and buries our driveway again! Power still off, and P.P.&L. is still asking us to conserve energy to avoid power outages. Toilet froze and part of the roof has started to cave in.

1/21/94 – 6 [gosh darn] more [freakin] inches of [freakin] snow and [freakin] sleet and [freakin] ice and God knows what other kind of white [freakin] s$$$ fell last night. I wounded the [freakin] snowplow [yay who] with an ice ax, but he got away. Wife left me. Car won’t start. I think I’m going snowblind. I can’t move my toes. Haven’t seen the sun in weeks. More snow predicted. Wind chill –35 [freakin] degrees. I’m moving back to North Carolina.

OOOOOH yes, big time at that. I have been pitching what is now officially junk that was worthy of saving (for some reason) and I have the attic to start on, got a lot of keep sakes up there, a lot of my childrens toy, dolls , one 43 the other 32 so, that sturr are automataic keeps. I am going to buy one of those 20' containers that goes on truck trilers, put it on the back of the farm, paint it green (match the trees) and fill it full. The good stuff is going into climate controlled storage, antiques, etc. I dread it but looking forward to it (the move).
