I really understand about the Christmas thing. I think it's terrible and our Christian friends in Asia just can't fathom those things. Christmas is a national holiday in Singapore and it is seen as a Christian holiday, not a secular holiday. Yeah, the celebration is kind of a mix of Santa and Jesus, but at least there's no effort to take Jesus out of the picture.
Today I heard about a teacher (in California?) who was told that she could not use the word "Christmas." Is that not going way too far even for liberals?
I used to work on my feet in a store with a concrete sub-floor. My knees got progressively worse although I wasn't paying much attention. They got so bad that when I sat in the car to drive home, they would be really sore, and by the time I got home I could hardly walk in the house. After I quit, I thought things were ok. Then one day I stepped off the porch and turned and my kneecap dislocated. Hence the surgery.
Be very careful. Knees problems really can sneak up on you.
And from The People's Republic Of Madison, Wisconsin, we have THIS......
Warning: This WILL raise your blood pressure.:(
About the pagans in Madison, just remember that there WILL be a judgment day. It will not put a smile on God's face to have these people without faith essentially trying to strengthen the non-faith of even more people.
By the way, there's an interesting explanation I heard for why Christmas was put on the church calendar at or near Winter Solstice. Recall that John the Baptist said of Jesus, "He must increase and I must decrease." Christmas is the Feast of Jesus and from that point on, daylight increases. The Feast of John the Baptist is around Summer Solstice and from that point on, daylight decreases. Not sure if this is true, but I heard that about 3 years ago and thought it was interesting.
The most important feast honoring Saint John occurs on the 24th of June. This is the nativity. This particular nativity has a very close resemblance to the Feast of Christmas. There are three masses in the service. The first occurs in the middle of the night and is a reflection of John's role as the precursor to Christ. The second occurs at daybreak and commemorates his baptismal activities, particularly the baptizing of Christ. The third service occurs at the hour of Terce and honors John's sanctity.
Interesting. I have never before heard of this comparison. Ya larn sumpin' new every day.:)

Republicans Continue to Embrace Racially Divisive Politics Dear Brenda Lawson, When incoming Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott told a roomful of people that "we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years" if America had voted for Strom Thurmond's segregationist presidential campaign in 1948, his words shocked the nation. It was almost inconceivable that, in 2002, an incoming Senate Majority Leader would even imply that segregation would have a beneficial effect on the country. But then we learned this wasn't the first time. In 1980, Lott said almost the same exact thing, saying at a political rally, "You know, if we had elected [Thurmond] 30 years ago, we wouldn't be in the mess we are today." Do Senate Republicans really want someone with a pattern of racially divisive statements and a history of supporting organizations with racist policies and goals as their leader? Does Lott's statement represent the values of the Republican party? With the GOP supporting voter intimidation efforts in recent elections, it's hardly a surprise that they would choose someone like Lott as their leader. Click here to send an email to President Bush and Senator Lott telling them to reject the racially divisive politics of the past. Click here to tell your friends about Lott's recent racially divisive statement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the Week "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either." One color short of Christmas, one candle short of Hanukkah.
I sound like Neil Armstrong. Sheesh.

Actually, I could. I had to buy a bunch of radishes for the two I used, and I have a lot left over. I've got to find something to do with them so they don't go to waste.
They are really pretty radishes, too. Tops and tail as well as the radish itself. If nothing else, I'll practice my garnishes with them.

I'll post one on the weekend thread. Just for you.

Some say the road to the Super Bowl will go through Tampa. Some say it won't. These next games are critical for home field advantage.
Dolphins play Oakland. Will be a tougher game than Chicago, but the Fish will prevail.
