I ran across this today. I missed then altogether back in 2000. This is so funny.

The Ballad of Al Gore
(Sung to the tune of "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" from
THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES")

Come and listen to my story 'bout a man named Gore
A snippy Democrat, who was really quite a bore
On election day of his Presidential bout
He thought he lost the fight but he got to recount
ballots that is... punch cards... butterflies.

Well the next thing you know they're countin' 'em again
He lost a second time so he gave it all some spin
They said Palm Beach is the place you oughta be
So he hired legal experts from Tallahassee
Florida that is... sunshine state... deadlocked.

Well the next thing you know they wanna change the rules
And play around with votes cause they think we're a bunch of fools
They riled lotsa folks and they made a lotta fuss
Till Cheney came along and started kickin' butts
Buttocks that is... liberal hineys... left-wing whiners.

Al Gore whined that the system wasn't fair
After countin' ballot holes that weren't even there
Kate Harris said that the recount was a joke
But that didn't stop the liberals from tallyin' votes
Democrat votes that is... hangin' chad... dimpled ballots.

Well the State Supreme Court gave Gore another break
They let him count again cause the party was at stake
But just when he thought that his dream was born anew
The overseas votes gave it all to W
George W that is... Texas Governor... President-elect.

Now it's time to say good-bye to Al and all his kin
He tried to steal some votes but it didn't help him win
You're all invited over to his house in Tennessee
To sit around and blubber at his pity-party
Nashville that is... pout a while... have some sour grapes.

Ya'll have fun now... Ya Hear?

Just marking my spot for tomorrow. Thanks for your concern Val and Mo and everyone. My eyes are still pretty puffy. It was a sad shock that I was not prepared for. My poor son, yesterday was his birthday and Amigo was his absolutely buddy. Amigo slept in the crook of Mark's arm every night for years. Followed him around like a little puppy, etc. etc. He is very very depressed. Won't talk, etc. at this point he's just inconsolable. I'm not much better but some. If anybody asks me about him or tries to comfort me I burst into tears. I didn't make a pretty picture in vet's office yesterday. Actually I had gone to pick him up and take him home for a few days. They were going to give me the IV bag, a huge 60CC syringe etc. so that I could give him fluids twice daily under the skin. He was going downhill so fast - the animal tech was showing me the procedure (which I did many times as the SPCA pres and special constable anyway) but when she brought him in to me, she put him on a fuzzy mat on the table. He was absolutely nothing but fur over bones, his mouth was dripping blood from all the ulcers that had formed and I just changed my mind on the spot. However, I burst into tears and could not control myself. He was so very special. This place is just not same. I paid to have him cremated tho so that I can get an urn with his ashes and his name on it. That will be for Mark. Goodnight friends, Love Lynn

I'm so sorry for you and Mark... how very sad. But Amigo deserved to be let go and not suffer any longer. You did the right thing. It's an amazingly wonderful thing, this special friendship we can have with animals.

We just met for a beer... he had to meet some other friends later, so I figured it was a safe time. Wasn't supposed to be a big date - just hang out as friends since I am seeing someone else...
