re: losing WW2 veterans.

My grandfather, a WW2 veteran, passed away this morning. He was in the Navy during the war and was a pilot and photographer. When he returned from the war he became a civil engineer for the State of Michigan. He was a bow hunter, and taught me how to shoot a gun. My fondest memories are sitting in a deer blind with my grandpa and rubbing apples on trees. ( don't worry, I think apple rubbing is illegal, and it probably repels the deer more than baits them)

My grandpa could also have been a twin of Ronald Reagan. They look exactly alike.

Small story, he served in the military with child actor Jackie Cooper, who later became my mother's Godfather.

My Godfather is my uncle who was a fighter pilot in Vietnam and still flies today.

My condolences on your grandfather's passing. The 9th anniversary of my father's death will be in two weeks. He also served in the Navy in WWII. Just saw a story on the 5 p.m. news about how only a couple of people bothered to come to today's Veterans' Day ceremony at one of the local courthouses. It looks like my generation and the one behind me is failing to tell the children about the significance of this day.
