Police working desperately to corral two moose on the loose in the east end last night watched in horror as a car struck one of the moose on Blair Road.
The two young moose were first spotted wandering along Blair Road just before 8 p.m. But as they approached Montreal Road, the lights of the big city proved to be too much for one of the animals, and it bolted into traffic. The moose sideswiped a minivan, badly denting the car and bruising itself before veering off again. The occupants of the car were uninjured, and police and NCC conservation officers set off to track the moose.
Late last night, one moose had retreated to the Ottawa River, swimming to the Quebec side, to "wherever they hang out," said an officer. The moose involved in the hit-and- run was last spotted north of Montreal Road, and police hope to reunite him with his friend, preferably outside the city. No humans or moose were injured in last night's mischief.
