To mis-quote a president from Georgia... I lust in my heart for a pumpkin cannon. The compressed-air potato cannon is pretty cool, but it's only 2".
It did break the fence, but that's beside the point....GRIN!

Have you ever heard of an "Avalauncher"
To: Species8472
No, but I like the sound of it... 'Splain forward, please.

If it makes noise, flies, or destroys things, I'm sure he'll love it.

An Avalauncher is an nitrogen powered cannon used to place explosives for avalanche control. They are about 15 feet long with a 4 inch barrel and have an active reservoir about the size of a propane cylinder. Range varies according to the size of the payload. Lots of fun to shoot!

No, not to their detriment at all. Loaves & Fishes is completely self-funded through grants and contributions, we have our own commercial kitchen and only need dining rooms. We supply dining room mangers, all the servers/cleaners/etc. from our 800-900 strong group of volunteers, security and even pay for the gas/electricity/water/garbage that we use.
Some churches feel that their members would be unsettled by having "poor people" come there to eat. AND, I have to confess, that a couple of churches have actually put this to a vote and their congregations don't want to feed the poor and homeless. Go figure, I can't!

No, not to their detriment at all. I meant to the detriment of the poor. Some folks you can't feed, because they won't work. To their detriment.
What has happened to the Church when people are "unsettled" about feeding the needy? I'd like 30 minutes to teach those churches Christ's vision of feeding the poor.

"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me."

"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me."They have a heavy burden to bear.
Trill says it's because folks don't want them coming back on Sunday and trying to talk to people. About the Word. Where they can get saved. And turn their life around.
Yes, it can get ugly, and it's often not tidy. Life is like that. I would vote to feed the needy.

Many of the poor and homeless we feed are bi-polar, relapsed druggies/alkies - but we also feed a large and growing number of families who have minimum incomes and can't stretch their money through the entire month.
However, I'm not one to care who we are feeding, or why, because there are so many, many different hungers that can be fed just being in the presence of others, having that meal, sharing companionship, seeing the group of nicely dressed and groomed volunteers who are willing to greet you and serve you a hot meal, just listening to the noise and clatter around you as others converse ~~ all of that and more feeds the hunger of the soul and that, to me, is the most important part of Loaves & Fishes.

It's time for me to call it a night. God bless us all. Each, and every one.

Me too.
Our church has a pantry which gives out food on a daily basis to those in need. Most of the recipients are not members of the parish. The lines are often long.
Contributions come from the parish and from other churches in the city.
At the Thanksgiving Day liturgy, instead of just putting money in the collection plate during the Offertory, people process up the aisle with bags of food and leave it around the altar, to be brought down to the pantry later for distribution.

Good night Johnny. Fourteen you-know-whats.

Sorry about that. I am having a terrible time getting things to post. I think we are still overloaded from yesterday.
BTY - I'm with you on food thing - lots more to it than just a meal.....
To: jtill
It sounds like a wonderful ministry, JT.......Prayers that hearts will be softened in some of those churches.
Time for me to call it a night.
God bless you, Sweetie!

Years ago when I worked big city EMS, we used to keep a cooler in the Bus(ambulance) with a few goodies from the hospital kitchen. Best thing we ever did to build a little trust with some of the street people.
