I've been to BBQ heaven in Memphis....now I need to know about the rest of the country.....
I need a Freeper list of the best BBQ joints in your respective states. I would prefer that the joints be just that -JUKE JOINTS or the like-not chains. Please explain why you like it...ribs? Chicken? baked beans?

You have to leave your culinary and health department standards at home when you go to Bryants, that is for sure. In the 1960s it was something to behold. In those days, you judged the sauce, and the BBQ, by the number of flies buzzing around! Not for the faint of heart! But the beer was ice-cold ~ with frosty glass mugs ~ and the more fingers that were missing from your sandwich-maker meant that he had a LOT of experience - BBQ wise. fsf

Johnny's BBQ in Mission, Kansas. Nope. You are not going to drag me into one of these "my BBQ is better than your BBQ" threads. I realize you are passionate about the subject, but stick to fish. (By the way, why do you never discuss BBQ'd fish?) ...just curious.... (and PS: what is Max's favorite BBQ?)...fsf

National Barbecue Cookoff in Washington, D.C., in the middle of June is just marvelous. I'm sure there's a website somewhere out there.

Sending a pregnant woman a BBQ thread! The two times I was pregnant, I could NOT pass a BBQ restaurant. I had to at LEAST stop and have a sample of beans, followed by a slice of pecan pie, all polished off with a giant glass of milk. Now that I'm no longer EVER pregnant, it makes me sick to think of it! :o) fsf

I've only been there once, but there's a little place off exit 59 on I-81 in East Tennessee called Carolina BarBQ. There's nothing particularly special about it. It's just very good barbeque. Occasionally, they also get more exotic meats like elk. They usually offer three very good sauces to go with the barbeque. When you exit I-81, go towards Kingsport. There's a little fire station on the left, and it's next to the fire station.

Hey, guys, I went to see Rudy, Talent and Kit Bond yesterday. Woo Hoo! She did. She was just shameless! She was up there on the front row, begging for a touch from the Rudy! (And I was right behind her!) :o) fsf

BBQ'd fish? Fish are for sport, not eating. Like golf balls.

You forgot the myopic rude staff at Bryant's! At least at Gates, the staff is civil, with their bellowed "HI MAY I HEP (yes HEP) YOU?")

Where were you guys last week when we... Well, I thought my husband was going to be home, but he had an appointment. The boys are too old to get a sitter (they would be MORTIFIED) but too young to leave home alone. I don't know what barker's excuse is. Probably at home pining over a picture of Rudy! :o)fsf

Grandday's in Lawrence Ks. Not bad at all, ain't fancy and doesn't have a vast menu, but they make their own sause and rub. Good eats!
East Turnpike exit
2-3 blocks south, west side of road next to sleazy topless joint (badabing, I belive)

The only think better than the steaks at Plaza III are the hash browns. And I'll agree with you 110% on Jack's Stack in Martin City. If you change your mind about barbecue then you can mosey on down to Jess n' Jim's.
