A jury made up of several members of the entertainment industry, including former Sony Entertainment Pictures Chairman Peter Guber, was sworn in Friday to judge actress Winona Ryder on shoplifting charges. Lawyers on both sides accepted the eight-woman, four-man panel after questioning whether their occupations might prevent them from being fair.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos asked the them whether the fact Ryder is "pretty and rich" would prejudice her in their eyes. No one answered affirmatively.

Addressing the former Sony executive, he said: "Mr. Guber, you're not afraid of working in this town again if you get on this case, are you?" There was laughter in the courtroom as Guber answered, "No." full story

Does it strike anyone else as ODD that ANYONE in the industry, especially a former Chairman would end up on a jury?

Isn't Mark Geragos a blight on the practice of law? So is Bernie Grim (hair implant king) often seen on FOX, particularly with Greta Van Sustern - who has been reproached, along with her attorney husband, by the powers that be for unscrupulous business practices.

One of the few "tv" attorneys I have any respect for is Cynthia Alksne - she rarely can be found in the limelight but is always thoughtful. Too bad there aren't more like her.

I do like Nancy Grace, although she tends to milk situations for all they are worth. At least she is on the side of law enforcement. Unfortunately, she tends to fight from the gut instead of the head.
