Posted on 10/17/2002 5:03:05 AM PDT by RikaStrom

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

qua \KWAY; KWAH\, preposition:

1. In the capacity or character of; as.
2. In so far as

This might be thought a decisive objection to a federal judge's writing about this subject even if the judge writes qua academic rather than qua judge.
--Richard A. Posner, An Affair of State

Etymology: Latin, which way, as, from ablative singular feminine of qui who. Date: 1647

okay okay... i get the point... this could really devolve into the gutter quickly. I can think of a lot of really bad jokes or puns to go with this subject but had better restrain myself due to decorum.

"Time to rise and shine your rabble rousers!"

What if I don't want to shine? How about if I'd rather have a dull veneer? Is that acceptable? And can I do it while still in my bed under a comfy blanket? Believe me, I don't have to be all shiny just to see to it my rabble is roused.

"Believe me, I don't have to be all shiny just to see to it my rabble is roused."

I can't speak for everyone, tD, but I don't really want to see your rabble roused.

Get under the covers quickly.

For our honeymoon, 17 years ago, we went on a Carribean Cruise. After a hectic day of sightseeing and shopping in St. Maarten, we arrived back at the ship. MrsPalm wanted to take a nap before dinner so she went back onboard. Qua explorer, I decided to take a tour of the rum distillery we passed on the way out the dock area.

As I was walking in, a group of english knights was coming out. I thought they looked like a bunch of pooftahs. After the tour, and samples, I walked back to the ship. As I approached the ship, I ran into another of the knights who was looking lost. He asked if I had seen his group. I said he should go down the quay where the knights are gay.

I agree completely. People under the covers should not be shiny. They should have a satin finish to their start.

So it a rainy night, and this cabby sees a nun on the corner waving frantically.

he pulls over, gets directions, and starts driving...

After a few minutes, he says..."Excuse me sister, but i must confess, ever since i was a little boy in catholic school, I've always found a woman in a habit to be very sexy...

She says...Why don't you pull over so i can get up front...

He does, and she climbs in the front and begins to satisfy him like never before, while he continues driving...

As she finishes him off, they arrive, and he says, 'The Fares is on me, but I must confess, i never eve went to catholic school.

The passenger smiles back, and says, that's Ok, I have a little confession of my own.

My Name is Frank, and I'm on my way to a costume party.
