A Singaporean perspective on the bombing in Bali

Our former pastor just sent the following to us as a way of informing us very briefly what is going on in Singapore and how they are praying for the situation in Bali. Singapore is so close to Indonesia that they really are vulnerable if things get out of hand over there. Whoever wrote this is talking about both the government's response and what the Christian response should be.

Greetings from Singapore. Yes, we are all a bit shell shocked but I can sense real good happening too -

well, you see, Prime Minister Goh has mooted this idea of a religious harmony pledge, and the Muslim community has also banded together to issue a statement of their stand against radical islam and terrorism.

The word is out - engage and integrate, not isolate or disengage. This i sense is probably the first time, everyone in our community is urged to dialogue and build bridges across religious and ethnic lines. Very healthy phenomenon.

In Indonesia, the extremist Islamic group has also disbanded themselves in the light of all that's happening, and moderate muslims are getting very fed up with these radicals.

PLease pray not just for protection, but also wisdom for the body of Christ to know how to respond and to show acceptance and love rather than suspicion and fear.

And together we continue to ask our Father to 'teach us to number our days, that we might present to Thee a heart of wisdom.'
