AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 634) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | October 16, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 10/16/2002 4:20:05 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not live in fear!

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

The elections in Iraq are over, and with 100% of the precincts counted, Saddam has won another term as President with 100% of the vote. Not even the former Soviet Union could boast that performance.

United Airlines is in serious financial trouble, and appears headed for bankruptcy.

And, in the UK, there has been a sharp rise in support for a war against Iraq after the attacks on Bali.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Yes, I think you're right. My point is that they should have suspected terrorist groups with ties to the Middle East all along, even if they didn't have hard evidence that the shooter was middle eastern. Now that it looks like a good possibility, it shows how incompetent they've been.

it shows how incompetent they've been.

Or how afraid of the "racial profiling" bogeyman they really are.

My brother-in-law is a very committed Democrat and last year was named "Democrat of the Year" in our county. But he's also involved in law enforcement as the DA. He is absolutely against the thinking that prevents racial profiling. It's one of the few issues we actually agree on.

He's even a Giants fan so even though I'll be watching at his house, we'll be on opposite sides.

While I think the media is afraid of the racial profiling bogeyman, I am not so certain that the police are afraid of this as much as they are afraid of not catching this sniper.

Look at it this way. Suppose they actually do have a good description from the witnesses. It is obviously someone Middle Eastern. What happens if they release the sketch?

The perpetrator ducks into a safe house and quits shooting, and then moves to another city and can continue his jihad there. It is obvious that this is what would happen...the sniper is obviously following the news.

On the other hand, if they put out the statement that they have no conclusive descriptioin (even though they do) then the sniper is lulled into a false sense of security while the feds match up the description to a visa photo or whatever. It is lots easier to find this guy if he is given no reason to bolt.

In addition, although there are many sensible people who would make good use of the description, there are many more who would form into vigilante groups, attacking mosques and such. I have already seen postings on several threads suggesting this. This would not help the cause of the US, and lots of innocent people could be injured or killed.

So, I am unwilling to ascribe the non-release of the sketch to PC motives, despite Chief Moose's statement. I think more is going on that meets the eye.

One other thing...if the idea is for this guy to keep taunting the LE people until he gets caught, at which point he detonates a large bomb in his truck, we do NOT want the average citizen trying to stop him.

The Dems had an economic summit last week? I heard noise about them having one, but didn't realize that they actually held it. I didn't see too much on the news, I know because I was restricted to CNN because of the hotel.

Authorities aren't sure anymore that the snipers are escaping shooting scenes on highways. They may be stationed locally and then draw back to nearby hideouts, which may explain how they've managed to slip dragnets.

I wish I knew how to do put an overlay ...of all Mosque's and Islamic Centers in the DC/MD/VA area over a map of all the shooting scenes....I bet we would be shocked of how close they are to each other.

Wouldn't be the first time a brother of the religion of peace hid in a place of worship ....after killing someone......

Back from lunch and still steamed over this PC crap...

Just checking in again before going out...

My suspicions are similar to yours, Jane, and I thought of something else last night.

We know that terrorist cells in Portland and Buffalo were being observed for the past year and finally busted.

What about a cell in the DC area? Surely that would have been known about? Or maybe it was as sly as this shooter, and wasn't on the radar screen til this shooter,

and they are connected.

Maybe the composite isn't being released so as not to tip off the other members of the cell, til the LEOs and FBI are sure they have them all.

Of course this decision would be weighed against the potential value the composite would have to find the shooter, and the risk run that he'll kill again, while the authorities delay...

It isn't being released because we don't want the soccormoms to panic and pull little Johnny out of school.

We can't offend our muslim brothers either....

I agree. It is very difficult not to be impatient. However, I think that most law enforcement people want more than anything to catch this guy(s) and are, while not profiling in public, busily going through all suspicious Middle Easterners, Muslims, Black Muslims, and immigrants from Kosovo.

Lots going on behind the scenes that we don't know, and I am willing to give the law enforcement people the benefit of the doubt. (Chief Moose needs a spokesman, however.)

Dog, you are my good friend and I am going to talk sternly to you because I care about you.

Please stop paying atention to all the rabble-rousers on the other threads. They are the same people who constantly Bush-bash.

I have listed several common-sense reasons for why we have not seen a sketch yet. Molly has as well. I am confident that they are working behind the scenes to get these people.

If the FBI was concerned about PC, we would not have arrested that cell of Black Muslims in Portland, nor would we have rounded up those folks in Buffalo.

The primary job is to catch the people doing this...and the public can be of little help, because these people are NOT hanging out with your average American.

Do not fall into the trap that the disruptors are setting, trying to get you to distrust all facets of law enforcement and the government's intentions. That is 5th column stuff.

the racial profiling bogeyman, I am not so certain that the police are afraid of this

In the DC area, most (not all - Fairfax is an exception) jurisdictions are very much indeed afraid of the racial profiling bogeyman. In Montgomery county, MD, for example, police must record the race of each person to whom they cite for traffic violations, and this is fed into a database. This is only one example.

That aside, the balance of your argument does make sense, though I tend to lean more toward the FBI view on this and that is they don't want to cause panic, so much as vigilantism. Besides, the DC area is sufficiently cosmopolitan and diverse, I'm not sure that would occur anyway.

Now if there's an intersection with a National security issue, then that's another thing - and it's also something we wouldn't be told.

If I had all of the addresses, I could do it with some mapping software I have at home - even then it would take awhile.

Chief Moose should step aside and give it over to the FBI. The FBI should have jurisdiction now anyway as countless state-line crossings have been involved. But that is MO.

I am certain that there are plenty of PC concerns in the DC area. However, in a situation like this, I do not think that PC would enter into it at this stage. Too many people of different races shot, and I do believe there is a national securty issue involved...otherwise why the involvement of the Pentagon, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, the FBI, and the President?

It is known that Al Qa'eda, Hezbollah, and Hamas all have operations in the DC area. They haven't been located to a degree where they can be dealt with, however.

Either you're going to have to trust me when I say that - at the local police level - PC is absolutely on the table in all of this. Or we're going to have to agree to disagree, which is all right too. :))
