We will not live in fear! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
In a departure from the normal characteristics of the shootings in the Washington area, a woman was gunned down by a single bullet at a Home Depot store located at Seven Corners in Falls Church, VA. If this is the sniper, it would be the first attack inside the Beltway.
Police found a white van in Baltimore with a high-power rifle, .223 ammunition, a sniper manual, and a sign on the front dashboard "Jihad in America."
In Florida, polling data shows Gov. Bush with the support of 48%, and McBride at 45%, with three weeks left till the election.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
Frankly, I don't think they really care about that.
What I believe motivates them is the desire to be seen "doing something" about the "problem." They crave to be seen as "responsive" to the needs of the public, and "able to provide" protection.
Since, of course, they can do no such thing, the only other thing is legislation and regulation: "I did something, I passed a law. And that is more important than anything else that could occur from this tragic situation because this will serve to protect future people from becoming victims [notice to make this argument one has to write off the recently deceased(!!)]. I don't think it would do any good to dwell on the past - the people want solutions for the future, and I have provided it for them."
But what is the really sad part? Many of we the people seem to lose our brains and common sense when we hear this drivel, buy into it, and lead the cheer.
Ugh.
And in so doing has created a distrust of any military involvement in a domestic investigation. Yet another stain on x42's legacy.
BTW, on a totally different topic, have you been watching "The Ship" on the History Channel? Trill and I found it entertaining, for reality TV.

President Bush is receiving daily briefings on a Washington-area sniper as part of his national security review every morning, but he has not changed his mind on gun control laws nor does he support firearm "fingerprinting."White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said Tuesday that "fingerprinting," a process in which ballistics samples from individual firearms would be put in a federal database to match a gun owner with a gun, is unreliable and inaccurate.
"There are some issues that are raised with this that deal with the accuracy of the ballistic fingerprinting that need to be explored and reviewed before any final determination can be made," Fleischer said.
The president also questions the need for new gun laws in general, Fleischer added.
"How many laws can we really have to stop crime if people are determined in their heart to violate them no matter how many there are or what they say?" he asked.
From this thread .......
Grrrr...I'm on a break from teaching, but I STILL have to put up with the e-mails. Today I got one which is a "poem" composed of actual quotes by President Bush. Why do liberals do stupid things all the time, make stupid proposals that run against all logic, defend the stupidest of stupid ideas, and then think that our president is stupid just because, like everyone else, he misspeaks once in a while?
I'm fully prepared ......

I have the large, industrial-sized roll from Costco.
And which would be worse for them? VA is about as good at Texas at being able to see the death-row line move.

I would like to treat them as illegal combatants and put before a tribunal.
Consider this in the equation - Maryland gets first crack at him because that's where the first murder occurred. They aren't too good at taking care of these sorts of folks.
I concur. Who is the final arbiter of that decision? I know SCOTUS has the final say on appeal, but is it the President? or Maryland's Gov? on the executive side? Or do good intentioned Americans come together and expiditiously walk them up the 13 steps to a long drop and a short rope?

The President decides.
His criteria are:
Foreign nationals who are not otherwise military and who are involved in warlike acts on the United States, preferably overseas, which would involve the disclosure of sensitive information if they were to be tried in civilian courts.
Unfortunately, that's going to be a reach here. Which is sad.
Then, again, maybe we just ship them off to Gitmo until we can figure it out, precisely. Which could take awhile.
