In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
hegemony \he-jem-o-knee\, noun:
hegemonies; plural
hegemonic; adjective
hegemonism; noun
hegemonist; adjective
USAGE NOTE
Hegemony may be stressed on either the first or second syllable, though the pronunciation with stress on the second syllable may be winning out. Seventy-two percent of the Usage Panel prefers it.
1. The predominant influence, as of a state, region, or group, over another or others.
2. Leadership; preponderant influence or authority; -- usually applied to the relation of a government or state to its neighbors or confederates.
3. The domination of one state over its allies
This period in Greek history is called the Spartan hegemony, for although Sparta didn't rule the city -states of Greece as if it were an empire, Sparta did exercise considerable influence over the domestic and foreign decisions of these independent states: it exercised, then, hegemonic control over these states.
--The Spartan Hegemony; 404-371 BC,©1996, Richard Hooker
Etymology: Greek hEgemonia, from hEgemOn leader, from hEgeisthai to lead. Date: 1567

"...i didn't even have to offer you a SKITTLE!" I thought we'd get to that as a prelude to 'pannning for gold'.

This article about Bill Sammon's new book seems to indicate that Bush, growing weary of the hegemonic control stupidity seems to have over so many people he has to deal with, is getting close to full "mad as hell" mode. Good.

Homework:
It's funny that Al Gore would have gotten in such trouble (even as little as the mass media emphasized!) by going to that temple for money ...
How did hegetmonkist money when they've taken a vow of poverty?

""Because I've gained so much weight I couldn't get it off ..." Funny answer:
Gaining weight is a relatively slow process (H**l, I've been trying for 47 years and haven't succeeded yet!) ....
So wouldn't he have had problems getting it back "on" ...
Didn't Tipper notice/comment/complain/not care?
Or did he just not bother getting it re-sized?
Might take as long as his supposed kiss on the national TV stage.....

it is a wonder that hobbes did not run into this
duo on his lunch hour, since they were out and about in his neck of the woods.

What are they doing about the military ballots that have already been mailed? Since they're democrats, they'll just disallow the military absentee ballots.

n court papers yesterday, prosecutors claimed Loretta Lynn Harper, 35, and Bryan Florence, 37, both of Virginia, engaged in sex acts "at several public Manhattan locations" for a total of three hours Three Hours. what a pansy....And that probably means over the course of three hours......pathetic, what women put up with.

Sorry for the lateness of my reply. One of us actually had to go to do some work :)
Lilly will not affect us here in the first coast of Florida. I think we have dodged a big bullet. Kyle, I think, is still lurking and may be a threat.
On a more serious note, what is your lawyerly feeling on if USSC will take on the kankaroo court of NJ?

Poor girl!
I get a refill each morning from the pot at the corner gas station for 25 cents .... (Yes, it's the coffee pot, not the oil drain pot ....)
Sometimes I'm in and out of there during a single light switch.
To: Robert A. Cook, PE
