I have been watching Ken Burns, "Civil War Series" again. I do not know why I keep watching and holding out hope that this time we might just win.
My sad announcement, is that we did not win, this time either.
Why did we loose, surely we had God on our side.
Why do the good guys continue to loose, Roy and Dale won, the Lone Ranger and Tonto won.
The Clinton's win, the Dash@@786450897, have and are winning still, and again.
I guess good guys finish last, maybe we should not be such good guys.

Dammit, why do you have to go using my own words against me?
Do you have any IDEA the grief I suffered when I stated that not ALL slavery is immoral? I gotta find that 2 year old thread and sic all those peeps on you that tore my @$$ up. hehe
However, I do believe that the majority of southern slave owners were immoral in their ownership. This is proven by their treatment of blacks after their freedom. They refused to see them as equal human beings. God never stated that slave owners could look at their slaves as less that human. They were still equal, just under a certain type of servitude.
Another reason I believe it was immoral was that slaveowners owned the children of the slaves as well.
In the Bible, slaves were taken as a result of conquering a nation, or tribe, and or as a result of debt.

VERY little? mmmm Try reading up on NON biased history books. Try reading up on the fliers passed out by the Union in order to gain recruits for it's army. Try answering why Blacks who fled the south fought WITH the union (yes I know blacks fought in the confederacy but that was for their freedom as well).

Breaking news "Franco is still dead"Dead is good for him, dead works. I will not debate that fact. You may want to. But I will not. Sorry lips zipped, I am sorry but I was not invited to the funeral, did not see the body but if he is dead, that is ok. I will not miss a moments sleep worrying about him.. IF you are, Sorry, you need a life, try DU.

God allowed and allows a lot that people refuse to accept.
Those that defend a biblical monomgamy have to twist and contort to do so. Those that jump at the chance to condemn slavery as immoral also frequently refuse to condmen homosexuality with the same vigor even though it is condemned unambiguously and frequently.
IMO, slavery is an undesirable condition, but I sure as sh!t would enslave any enemy to the USA that I could, whether is was here, or there, making them work for my ease and comfort.
Would you turn down the opportunity to enslave AlKaeda?

I gotta find that 2 year old thread and sic all those peeps on you that tore my @$$ up. hehe Don't worry, I've met some of them.
You'll find OT instructions regarding the treatment of families and children of slaves. Sometimes the master got to keep them per God's instructions.
Ever read Philemon?

Deportation, prison and/or the death penalty work just fine for me. The New Testament isn't exactly big on bloodlust, either. Revenge is mine, sayeth the Lord.

I was unfurling the flag when this dad-gum storm blew up. Got our powder all wet, and next thing you know (it was totarlly unrelated) my brother found a mess of deer back on the neighbor's powerline and wouldn't let me go back thar to get the pickup truck with the shotgun mounts. Well anyhow, we gonna rise next year, if somebody can lend me a jumper-cable or two...

In Philemon doesn't Paul say he is sending his son, not as a slave, but as an brother?

"That the south fired first is undisputed. And I am sick of hearing about it. Get over it."
"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, a most sacred right-a right which we hope and believe is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people, that can, may revolutionize, and make their own so much of the territory as they inhabit."
Abraham Lincoln, 1848.

We'll rise again real soon. Have your people call my people and we'll do a rebellion.

I posted that just to see who was wound up too tight. I'm not anti-catholic. I'm pro-goof off.

Yes, the great sin of Southern slavery, in my opinion, was not so much the slavery (though I am personally opposed to it) but the racism inherent with it. Indeed, without racism the whole system would have collapsed. The idea that blacks were subservient to whites was what allowed slavery to exist alongside very heartfelt beliefs on liberty and freedom. The legacy of this racism, and not so much the slavery (though the two are closely tied of course) is I think the great tragedy of the American South.
