actually in this area, it's "put up or shut up", ok, so it's 3 different smart brothers being defamed. NE printed ed, tom, and dave were, ...well you know,, involved shall we say. as far as the disappearance of any mention of this business? it's been taken care of quietly, if you haven't noticed.

"presumption of innocence" - what in the world do you think we've been talking about. There's nothing on Ricci or he would have been indicted by the Grand Jury!

Do you really believe this drivel??? LE thought they had all the time in the world to indict Ricci and clearly would have. Have you ever, even once, considered basing your theories on the facts in the case?

The Smarts had no knowledge of Ricci's criminal background and were apparently conned by him. They liked him, trusted him, and couldn't believe that he was involved with Elizabeth’s abduction until he pulled his stonewall act with them and LE.

That's really the big boulder among the pebbles, isn't it?

I know NE is taken a bit more seriously than those other tabloids, but this sex-journal story ranks pretty low because:

• It doesn't say much - other than allege things;
• It's unverified (and NE itself could have followed it up, surely, if other papers won't touch it);
• The police themselves have said there's no "nexus" to the crime.

Exactly. Sounds like the NE's local counsel, or American Media Enterprise's (isn't that the parent co. name?) counsel, and/or the storeowners, heard from a lawyer threatening a lawsuit. Whoever "publishes" defamation can possibly be sued. Pulish in this case = spread it around.

Hmm..I dunno, Scaredkat. We've heard this thing about the mob guy from NJ, Carmen Ricci, and the Kingston connection. No known tie to Richard Ricci. And the Owen in the article is "Owen," whereas Ed's in-law is "Owens," I think.

Oh dear. I fear the Riccis may already have shown inconsistency, in spite of the fact that they've been in public far less than the Smarts. He took the jeep 4-wheeling. No--he never took the jeep at all. He never got out of bed that night. He got out of bed once that night, just to go to the bathroom. And on and on...

Now, Neenah, b/f someone (not you, I would think) goes off or swoops down, I'll just make my usual long post here by adding another thought in my mind today: Why did Ed have to be hospitalized? What ward do they put you on when you are so distraught that you have to be hospitalized? Wouldn't it be the psychiatric ward? Don't people get taken to the psychiatric ward, in many cases, b/c they've threatened to commit suicide?
