Hi, Everyone,

Just a drive by. Missie came out really well on her check up. All her blood values are normal..she is up in wt and has a very plush coat....

:[ Still no Yummie. The last two nights while looking I heard the little foot print sounds of an animal larger than say a mouse or rat or lizard but smaller than a small dog. I think it could be a very scared Yummie. It runs a few paces from me and stops, when I get near, it runs and stops again....if only he could just come out!

It is Toys 4 Tots time again so I'll be busy with that. I am not the coordinator for the 5 cites this year..was for the last 2 and it is a headache. I just have my village which is a nice size to work with and not so much running around.

Hope you are all doing fine...will post again later. Keep your fingers crossed for Yummie. We really miss that little man!

Good letter Nully. That guy is a typical liberal race-baiter helping transform the once-harmonious Seattle integration into a high-tension divisive environment. Of course he is pals with McDermott.

awwww CG, it's gotta be tough to think he is so close, yet so far. You would think he would want to be in the safe place if he was scared, and home is the safe place. Animals - sometimes logic escapes them.

Speaking of race-baiting.... I have a feeling that ALL of the 5 shooting victims in Montgomery County MD are white.

I'm guessing it could be two or more young guys who may or may not be affiliated with a religion, but who probably have odd names. Rasheed or LaMontrey-type names.

hmmmm... they said there are probably two men in the van/truck they are looking for. One of the victims was Hispanic. Sounds like they are using a rifle and are good marksmen making headshots. What sickos. Dangerous work catching killers like that - but that's what the cops had better do. Can't let these guys get away.

I'm thinking you're right -- people who trained to be snipers. Maybe ex-soldiers who are Moose limbs... Moose is the name of police chief or sheriff there. Moose.... sounds familiar - I think he was the ineffective topcop in a Pacific NW city, not Seattle though.

Sounds like the harmless shooter at the UN wanted to draw international attention to the suffering of the North Korean people.

There was a 6.3 earthquake in the south Sea of California. Pretty far from you -- I wonder if it was felt in San Diego.

WorldCom network troubles cause Internet delays

Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Some Internet users faced heavy delays reaching Web sites and accessing e-mail today because of widespread technical troubles on WorldCom's long-haul network.

The disruptions reached beyond WorldCom customers. Its backbones carry a large portion of Internet traffic in the United States. Also, many smaller service providers use WorldCom as the primary means to connect their customers to the Internet.

WorldCom spokeswoman Jennifer Baker said the problems began about 8 a.m. She said service to many customers had been restored by early afternoon, and technicians were working to restore others.

Technicians and vendors were investigating the cause of the disruptions, Baker said, refusing to elaborate.

She could not say how much of the network was disrupted, though others say the problem was widespread and not limited to specific locations, as is normally the case with Net outages.

Matrix NetSystems, a company that monitors Internet performance, said the glitch appeared to result from software at the exchange points where WorldCom meets other networks.

Tom Ohlsson, a Matrix vice president, said his monitors were seeing data packet losses of about 20 percent at those points -- compared to normal losses of 0.3 percent or less.

WorldCom runs one of the nation's largest backbone providers, UUNet. Backbones are the wires that carry Internet traffic between cities and even across continents.

WorldCom chief executive John Sidgmore has said that UUNet handles more than 50 percent of U.S. Internet traffic, including about 70 percent of all e-mails sent within the United States and half of e-mails sent in the world.

I hadn't heard this story. With the murderer/mother dead, no one feels compelled to defend the indefensible:

Mom, three boys found dead
Woman suspected of drowning kids

The Virginian-Pilot
NORFOLK, Va. -- A woman is suspected of drowning her three boys, ages 4, 3 and 7 months, before leaping off the Campostella Bridge to her death.

The children were found side-by-side in bed early Wednesday, several hours after their pregnant mother, 24-year-old Sonita L. Barkley, was pulled from the Elizabeth River.

All of the evidence pointed to murder-suicide, police said, but they could not say what motivated Barkley to drown her boys and take her own life. The children were identified by police as Jebediah, 4; Abijah, 3, and Shereef, 7 months. Relatives, however, said the eldest boy's name was Jehdiah.

The grim task of identifying the mother and her children fell to her husband, Randell D. Barkley.

"How is all my whole family dead? How, how is everybody not here," he said. "My family is gone, gone. The whole family."

Barkley also said he does not believe that his wife killed their children, herself and their unborn child. "I can't digest that explanation," he said.

Police found no suicide note. Investigators said she drowned the children in their bathtub in Sewells Park Apartments near Wards Corner.

Sonita Barkley worked at a Texaco station and had been separated from her husband for two months, according to police. Court records indicate she had previously accused him of abuse.

"From relatives we have talked to, we have not received any information that she had been despondent, that she had any problems at all. Not the first instance has come up of that," said police Capt. Mike Young.

This is too late for Maureen Reagan - but perhaps this new technique will save many lives:

Multiplying patients' own blood cells kills melanoma in research

By DELTHIA RICKS 2002 Newsday

Doctors have been able to defeat the deadliest form of skin cancer in a small number of desperately ill patients by flooding them with billions of their own cells that had been multiplied in the lab and altered in a way to recognize even the tiniest fragments of a tumor.

The government research team has produced a potentially promising treatment strategy, observers say, and a novel way of exploiting the immune system in the assault.

Dr. Steven Rosenberg, a veteran scientist at the National Cancer Institute, has successfully treated melanoma patients by taking from them a sample of vital white blood cells. Those cells were cultured in the laboratory and multiplied to numbers impossible for the human body to produce on its own. The cells then were treated to become cancer-destroying super warriors. These altered constituents then were re-introduced into the patients.

All 13 patients had exhausted medicine's most sophisticated standard therapies, including surgery to remove the primary tumor. Six patients experienced dramatic shrinkage of subsequent tumors; in one, a teenager, a tumor that had been the size of a volleyball vanished. In four others, many of the additional tumors that had developed disappeared.

Though three of the patients have died, such would have been the fate for all 13, researchers said, given the extent of the intractable, malignant melanoma that had spread throughout their bodies.

"Basically, what we have found is a new way to grow cells outside of a patient," Rosenberg said. The full results of his study are reported in the current issue of the journal Science.

The Democrat Party has decided that the Miss America Pageant rules apply to US Senate elections. Miss New Jersey Torricelli lost face and stepped aside LONG after his corruption was unveiled, and now a runner-up has filled in to compete for the title and crown. I wonder if the Torch will change his mind.....

Bring a can of food with you and when you hear the foot steps .. put the food down and hide behind a car or something and watch to see if it is him
