NEW TTT TRAILER ONLINE SEPT 30th
Prnewswire ^ | Sept. 24

Posted on 09/24/2002 8:31:32 AM PDT by maquiladora

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- In anticipation of the December 18 release of the central film in Peter Jackson's epic trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," New Line Cinema will debut the film's main theatrical trailer at 12:01AM, Monday, September 30, exclusively on America Online worldwide.

America Online users will be the first to glimpse the trailer by logging onto AOL Keyword: Lord of the Rings. Available exclusively for 24 hours on AOL, the trailer will be live at the official site at midnight Monday.

"We are tremendously energized by the passion and dedication of the online community that have been such an important component of the worldwide phenomenon surrounding 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy," said Rolf Mittweg and Russell Schwartz, president and chief operating officer, worldwide distribution and marketing, and president, domestic theatrical marketing, respectively, for New Line Cinema.

The AOL launch will be accompanied by enriched and upgraded content on New Line's official http://www.lordoftherings.net website. The official website continues the journey with the characters from the film with unique companion content modules that feature exclusive behind the scenes production videos, downloads and interviews with the cast and crew. A new interactive map will take users across the plains of Middle-earth to new locations such as Edoras, Fangorn Forest and Helm's Deep.

In April 2000, New Line's website for the trilogy, http://www.lordoftherings.net , made history when the internet preview for the first film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," was downloaded approximately 1.7 million times during its first 24-hours of availability, marking the highest-ever number of downloads of film marketing footage ever. Records on the official "The Lord of the Rings" site were shattered almost immediately as fans of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel began logging onto http://www.lordoftherings.net for exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the motion picture project.

The new trailer for "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" will debut in North American theaters on Friday, October 4, and widen throughout the world through the month of October.

New Line Cinema presents "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," an epic adventure of good against evil set in a time of uncertainty in the land of Middle-earth, scheduled to open December 18, 2002. The trilogy represents an unprecedented undertaking -- three films made simultaneously over a year and a half of production. The first film in the trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," was released December 19, 2001, to widespread critical acclaim and garnered $860 million worldwide. The film was nominated for 13 Academy Awards, more than any other film in 2001, and won four, including Best Visual Effects.

The central film in the trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," follows the three separate journeys of the splintered Fellowship -- Hobbits Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) as they venture deeper into enemy territory, with the mercurial creature Gollum (Andy Serkis) serving as their guide; Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) in the mysteriously alive Fangorn Forest; and the human Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), the Elf archer Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli the Dwarf (John Rhys-Davies) in the besieged Rohan Kingdom. Together they must stand against the gathering darkness emanating from the Two Towers -- Orthanc Tower in Isengard, where the corrupted wizard Saruman builds his lethal army of Uruk-hai; and Sauron's fortress at Barad-dur, deep within the dark lands of Mordor.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" stars (in alphabetical order) Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Brad Dourif, Bernard Hill, Christopher Lee, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, Viggo Mortensen, Miranda Otto, John Rhys-Davies, Andy Serkis, Liv Tyler, Hugo Weaving, Karl Urban, David Wenham, and Elijah Wood.

New Line Cinema presents a Wingnut Films Production, "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," directed by Peter Jackson. The screenplay, by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Stephen Sinclair and Jackson, is based on the classic trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. The film is produced by Barrie M. Osborne, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh. The executive producers are Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne. Also executive producing is Mark Ordesky. The director of photography is Andrew Lesnie, A.C.S. The production designer is Grant Major. The editors are Mike Horton and Jaybez Ollsen. The co-producers are Rick Porras and Jamie Selkirk.

They tell me AOL is an evil place, that I should not try to join to get in on Sunday... That AOL is an evil thing, that no one can wield it!

The choice is to wait till Monday I guess...

No, I don't like AOL either. I can wait a little longer, I'm sure there'll be some quicktime files springing up pretty soon anyway.
Oh, great scoop with the Fox article too!

New Lord of the Rings: Two Towers of Power

The relentless Uruk-hai capture helpless Pippin and Merry in The Two Towers.

New Lord of the Rings: Two Towers of Power

I've now seen advance footage of the second installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and all I can say is "look out." This may be another Oscar nominee for Best Picture.

Last week New Line Cinema held two sneak previews of 16 minutes of assembled footage of The Two Towers which featured a look at some new characters and a glimpse of a giant war scene. It was all very impressive, especially the new computer-generated character Gollum, who puts Jar Jar Binks to shame.

Two Towers, from what we saw, is more character driven than the first film. It feels a little amped up and that may be the result of the re-shoots this past summer. The scenes we saw had incredible energy even if you don't know a word from the book (and that would include this reader, whose only interest in J.R.R. Tolkien's books extended to The Fellowship of the Ring).

But nothing was more impressive than New Line's Mark Ordesky's knowledge of the entire Tolkien canon. When he finished explaining it to us, we were all afraid there'd be a quiz.

Later Ordesky, executive producer of the trilogy and the man who shares credit with director Peter Jackson for making it all work, admitted: "I read the books about 12 times since I was a teenager."

Bernard Hill, the British actor who plays Theoden, the king of Rohan, said that when the actors arrived in New Zealand this summer for re-shoots, Ordesky amazed them with the same speech. "We couldn't believe it," said Hill, who attended the preview with actors John Rhys-Davies and Miranda Otto

New Line will open Towers on Dec. 18, with a built-in audience. The first installment has made about a billion dollars worldwide so far.
