It lets you evaluate an antenna design without actually building the antenna. It saves a lot of money.
It would have a commercial application if we still had all those microwave antennas all over the country instead of using fibre optics. A point source of interferrence is just a commercial equivalent of a jammer.
Interestingly enough, the critical portion of the code will fit on one page. It is a VERY elegant recursive call, if I do say so myself.
