We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
Chancellor Schroder apologized to the US for the Hitler comparison. No word as to whether the German minister who made the remarks lost her job.
Tornadoes raked across Indiana yesterday afternoon as part of a severe weather front moving eastward.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
It looks like he won by only 1 seat..
I am going to sign off for the day ....see you all tomorrow!
Night!
You might find this interestesting ...
My daughter is an anthropology major ... with a photography minor ... in college ... she started out majoring in photography, but switched the two.
Currently ... she has a core class concept up for review at the University ... department heads are considering her concept for a new way to look at anthropology through a photographer's "eye" and how it would change the field of study! Grants are being discussed and her thesis paper is making the rounds ...
In the meantime ... her latest paper, in a class called "Anthropology of War" ... drags the field, kicking and screaming, towards a more conservative bent in thinking ... she totally deconstructed several "respected" anthropologists' theories in a paper which is the beginning of a series she has intentions to continue and which she entitled The Myth of the Conflict and Eliminative Violence Partnership ... this first paper is part one. HAR!
I had to get my Mom's well used dictionary out again to fully understand what she wrote ... a proud moment for any parent.
....Hubbybear & I flew out from Orlando to Boston.....both of us suffering from a virus/cold we'd picked up a couple days earlier.
...felt quite miserable....
Upon arriving in Boston, we rented a car, and started for Kennebunkport.
We only spent one night in Kennebunkport, but tried to do the round of shops found in Dock Square...anyway. (which was only a couple blocks from our Inn)
But we truly were dragging our poor, sinus blocked, pain racked, tired bodies from shop to shop.... finally settling at a seafood restaurant, where we were too tired to even enjoy the food.
(Doesn't sound like a fun trip yet, eh.....LOL!)
The next day, after good rest, we were better, and got up early to enjoy the fresh, cool air, and take a few pictures outside the Inn.
I spotted 2 shocking pink Adirondack chairs outside of a quaint shop across the way, and nothing would do but hubbybear take my picture reclining in the shocking pink Adirondack chair :)
We then took the scenic route to Bar Harbor......making sure we stopped at Walkers Point...on the way, and took more pictures.
It was picturesque :^)
We bypassed Bar Harbor that day, and went straight to Northeast Harbor to our Inn at the port.
The Inn has a restaurant with an outside terraced porch (for dining) and a view of the harbor.
Most picturesque :)
As we sat there idly relaxing & having dinner, down the landscaped terrace was a young man and his two dogs, playing & scampering.
Illstillbe, I swear it was Old Soul and Sparkles ..reincarnated in Bar Harbor.
They were having such a romp, and Sparkles was running, and yelping a bit, with her tail wagging & held high!
Old Soul was slowly creeping along with this ..'why can't she calm down'.. attitude :))
...occasionally, the young man would have to turn Old Soul on her back and check one of the paws.
Old Soul seemed to really enjoy just lying there doing nothing.....
..but the young man and Sparkles would get back in swing, and the young man would toss a ball, and Sparkles would gleefully run and get it.....
..and Old Soul would again find some reason to lie down & complain so the young man would have to attend to it :))
It was quite fun to watch :))
The next day we slept in (& missed church, first time in a long time!)...and later went for a drive up to Cadillac Mountain......one can see all the harbors from its top!!
We were following the same route we'd taken 18 yrs before......
...We found Jordan Pond House...again, and stopped in for tea & popovers ....
....and that evening, we finally made it to Bar Harbor proper, and tried to find the shack on the wharf that sold fresh lobster, steamed and ready to eat.
It was closed!
Soon after, I spotted the Internet Coffee House, and wrote y'all a note :)
....to be continued....
Hubby & I went to something really neat today; a "Renaissance Herbal Faire" at the Botanical Garden.
Many displays, demonstrations, music, many people in Rennaissance attire, lots of gardens, gardens everywhere..........
Just a lovely, lovely place to be on a perfect first-day-of-autumn.
Now desperately rooting the Pack on to victory.........
Does anyone believe for a minute that this was "the first time it ever happened"???
She appeared quite well-practiced to me in the video.
If I had done something so shameful, I do not think I would call a press conference.
ISB, that is very, very cool about your daughter. More power to her. Anthropology is a very secular field, perhaps the one field most dominated by secular humanism. I was an anthropology major in college and even though it was at a fairly conservative Christian college, the nature of our study really seemed to leave God out of the equation. In fact the textbook for what was considered to be the core anthropology course was written by an unabashed Marxist.
After almost 20 years of a general distaste for what I learned, my latent interest in cultural anthropology was reawakened in 1999. A key conversation at that time with former Secretary of the Interior James Watt helped to motivate me to re-examine the field through a Biblical/Christian worldview. The field has now somewhat been redeemed for me and I've even had a chance to teach in Singapore and in Indonesia on anthropology to future missionaries.
Please give my best wishes to your daughter. Tell her to "go get 'em!"
Tomorrow, I go looking for evening/weekend work in a resturant. I may be pretty busy for a while, until I get laid off from XYZ Telecom Inc.
I look forward to the career change though. And the thought of never answering a "user" question again. Har!

This was a very black weekend in Tennessee. The Volunteers fumbled the ball 8 times yesterday and got throttled by the Gators. Then today the Titans blew a 14-point lead with less than 3 minutes left and lost in OT, 31-28. Ack!
We're watching a History Channel special about the Gulf War. I find that very interesting right now, for some reason.

I am off to watch some TV for a while.
I may have to spend some time in the garage tonight. We had some stuff ripped off out of the garage when it got left open yesterday during the day. I'm going to leave the garage door open tonight, and spend some time across the alley at my neighbor's. Maybe the crooks will be stupid and come back.

I told most of my students about the Civil War series starting tonight. I reserved my parents' TV for tonight.
I watched the series 10 years ago when I was living in China. The American Consulate was showing an episode a week on Friday afternoons. I was so busy that term that it was about my only time during the week to leave campus and it was a very welcome break from teaching.
...Replying to your post about teaching at PEI.
Truly, it's the land time forgot.
If you've ever watched the Anne of Green Gables..movie (1987)....the scenery is right out of the movie.
Rolling hills, potato farms, sheep, cows......gorgeous views of farmland and seascape.
Very little commercial imput on the island, except in Charlottetown.
The island to the Kings side, and Queens side is lush, green and dotted with small, white clapboard churches with cemetaries right in the church yard.....
...the cottage where we stayed was just around a corner from a very old one room schoolhouse....Annandale......
...the present day schools are small as well....but rather plain brick structures.....'consolidated schools'....
The island has much charm, and old world feel.........but economically, has a meager existence.
It's dependency is on ...tourist for 2 or 3 months of the year......lobster trapping for 2 months of the year.....tuna fishing for a short season.....and potato farming.
Often, after these resources have been plumbed, many are on unemployment until the next season.
But even remote farmhouses now have the small Direct TV satellite discs......
...which surely is most of their entertainment....(in the winter, the snow gets quite deep!)
...but they seem to still have some traditional entertainment in the form of ceilidh....(pronounced KAYLEE).....dotted throughout the island.
Ceilidh are usually held in a small community center......and encourage local musicians who play traditional Scottish instuments, ie, fiddlers, flutes, and stepdancers, etc....
..They meet to play & entertain.
It's a social gathering.
Ceilidh means ....gathering or party.
