I'm looking up the identities of the butterflies - butterflies with antennae on the tail are called hairstreaks. The one I have is Marius Hairstreak (Rekoa marius [Cramer])

Prentice and OCC don't want to pronounce "carafe" - so they say jugs.

Wow - how cool!
We had a gorgeous streaky fiery sunset last night -- after my camera batteries were dead.

This is so confusing. The gray hairstreak is supposed to have blue/gray upper wings with a large red spot -- this one was just plain gray with a yellow spot on the upper wing. So it must be a marius hairstreak.

The #248 butterfly is in the "skipper" category.
I'm drowning in geekiness, not jugs of merlot.

Good morning...

Hiya Grannie - you're getting very up close and personal with those flowers.

I'm lucky I haven't been stung yet.
No perfume or flowery soaps when taking flower photos.

Hi Val.. I took that photo from about five feet away..and it wasn't cropped. The flowers are six feet in the air.. They're tall ones.. No macro on that.. ;)
I'll be taking Florida pics in a few weeks..
To: ValerieUSA
Boo Hoo.. you'll have flowers a lot longer than I will.. Those are beautiful. I love the different varieties.. Not like here at all.

Do they have one of the butterfly conservatories at the zoo there?

Funny.....I had that very same thought. Is your zoom protecting you, hmmm? (Up close, some of those guys look downright prehistoric.)
