Nice try, Devil, but a pile of "maybes" still doesn't serve to resolve my doubts. Has it ever occurred to you that every use of the word "maybe" simply weakens your argument?

Remember, Lakey, we have no proof of anything except that Elizabeth is not at her home. (Why we are thought to have proof of that, I don't know.Pregnant point! Maybe she's holed up in a closet? It's a pretty big house.

"I never said, I never said..."
Sheesh!!
If you are talking about some cover-up of supposed abuse of Elizabeth, we'll never know that. But, about your idea that she felt she had to leave b/c of something that was happening at home, supposing that were true, do you really believe she could have stayed hidden all this time, without a trace?

But, about your idea that she felt she had to leave b/c of something that was happening at home, supposing that were true, do you really believe she could have stayed hidden all this time, without a trace? No one WANTS to know that. But if it's true (and it's the same as having to leave because of "something that was happening at home,") yes, it's possible she's hiding out with assistance.

No, I don't think the use of "maybe" weakens my "argument." I refuse to set forth my speculations as though they were dogma. My theories about this case sometimes change. I am considering any theory that I read about, in which I can find the slightest thing to persuade me to it. I would hope that others could also change their views on certain points, in the face of proof--not just try to "win" in every conversation.

With cases of abused runaways I know, the oldest daughter doesn't runaway and leave their younger sister behind to receive the abuse.
To: varina davis
BTW, this theory is not debatable here or anywhere, because if true, it will never be publicly acknowledged. Therefore, if true, all the suppositions on this thread to the contrary, are null and void and useless.

Thanks, varina. I found it in Deseret News, 9/20. It bears reposting:
Police reviewing clues in Elizabeth Smart case
Salt Lake police have been going back over early clues in the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping, and they interviewed Elizabeth's mother last week. They have been going back through a list of people the family knew in hopes of finding new clues in the 3 1/2-month-old kidnapping.
As part of their plan to go back to square one and re-examine the disappearance of 14-year-old Elizabeth, police have returned to the Federal Heights neighborhood looking for more clues, said Elizabeth's father, Ed Smart.
Smart family spokesman Chris Thomas said that within the past few weeks, police have conducted separate interviews with both of Elizabeth's parents. Lois' interview last week lasted two to three hours and was meant to help police review the family's extensive list of friends, associates and workers who knew the family or had access to their million-dollar residence.
This clarifies that it was SLCPD who conducted the new interviews, not FBI. Evidently, they are not satisfied with what the family told them in previous interviews. Who is holding back information, and why? I also wonder if Mary Katherine has been re-interviewed, and whether or not she has revised her earlier story.

You remind me of the wife who, when the husband says, "what's wrong" says "well, if you don't know, I'm not going to tell you!"

Interesting, too, that Ed and Lois were interviewed separately this time. We all know why police use that time-honored method with suspects.

I think it would be great if Elizabeth were in hiding, being sheltered by someone. It's certainly better than being dead, as I suspect she is. But I have trouble picturing someone who is so altruistic that they'd just keep her for the rest of her childhood, and so powerful that no one would question the new addition to their family. If this theory is true, then I suppose years from now we'll have some woman coming forward claiming to be Elizabeth, like Anastasia Romanov, and wanting her share of the inheritance when one of the parents dies. It's just too farfetched, but it would be great if it were true, b/c it would mean she's alive and okay.

here some proof but then again mybe not because it seems to some posters here if its not in the paper it's not proof.
Proof
Neths repair shop (whatever the his name is moul) is not the actual person that works on Ricci's cars.
The mechanic that does work on his cars was/is having an affair with Angelia.
The muddy Jeep wasn't the only vehicle with mudd on it.
The blue SUV, I know where it lives so does the FBI, Angelia does too.
That these people are involved in something but not Elizabeth.
Ed does have a chip on his shoulder because Ricci last year was not arrested for stealing things out of his house.
Police have a chip on their shoulders because Ricci was out of jail even though he carries a sawed off shotgun and likes to shoot cops.
Ed was NOT cooperating with the police and it almost came down to him being arrested for hindering the case.
Ed was told by High Church Officials to work with the police no matter what skeltons they would find.
Tom is missing time on the night Elizabeth disappeared, more time than Ricci.
Tom disappears at times from the group of family members.
The story about the screen being cut got bigger and bigger.
Tom was called before police.
Ed ran to nieghbors before calling police.
Smarts state double meaning words at news conferences.
Whenever a case isn't solve its mostly because of family involvement.

Should have been done that way in the beginning. BTW, Palladin, Just because a press release said the SLC police did the interviews, doesn't mean the FBI wasn't privy to them as well. It wouldn't make sense for them not to be.

All sounds like possibilities to me, scaredkat. Tell us more about the "affair" and the "high church officials."
