Survivor V: Thailand

Posted on 08/26/2002 4:36:57 PM PDT by YourAdHere

Survivor V kicks off on Thursday September 19th, and since a lot of us Freepers had fun speculating on Marquesas, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the upcoming series.

The bios are out, which you can check out here, and there's already been scandal associated with two of the castaways.

First there's Brian, an actor/used car salesman, who neglected to tell the show that he had a few "blue" movies in his past. They cast a porn star!

Then there's Tonya. Her story could have a lasting impact on the outcome of the show. Shortly before filming came to an end, Tonya's father back in Tennessee was tragically killed in a car accident. Reports are that she was immediately evacuated from the island.

If Tonya was one of the first 7 people ejected from the show, then her departure would have no impact on the outcome. However, if she made it past the merger and either onto the jury or in the final two, then that could mean one less vote in the final two, or something even stranger. Only time will tell.

I should have known better... Robb basically absolved their guilt beforehand--"I'm still a winner because of what I've learned"...

Maybe next week is the merger? I'll be on a cruise but I will be sure to watch it on board ;-)

I thought it would be Shi-Ann for sure. The Thai feast looked good but did you notice it was covered with flies. Yuck!!!
Very happy to see Robb go. It was a strategic vote by the rest of them. They figure they can always get rid of Shi-Ann, but when the tribes merge Robb would be strong competition.
Ted, Clay & Brian looking for the boat - stupid!!!
They should've done that the first morning. Too late now.
And if Sook Jai would've investigated their area more they would've found that nice dry cave instead of spending 3 or more days building their bamboo house.
Saw the scenes from next week. I tend to think their will be no merge next week. The teams are even.
Jan Leatherface is a looney toon.

I live in Monrgomery County, Maryland, and we were pre-empted for the first 20 minutes with the sniper press conference. Can anyone fill me in on the Robb/Ken blowup? What was it all about? Who initiated it?

Also, what was the point of the reward challenge, and how did Robb win it?

Today was one of my favorite episodes ever. I hated Robb. First he gets bitch slapped by the NYPD, then big Ted knocks him around, and then he gets voted out after crying like a baby.

Sweet.

I will try to sum up the first 20 minutes.
Chewing Gum went looking for their lost boat and after swimming for a LONG time, they came home, unsuccessful.
The reward challenge involved a member of each team launching a ball into the air and which ever team caught that ball won a point (they used baskets held on top of sticks to catch the balls).
Whoever reached five points first won the game. Chewing Gum made a recovery after being down 4 to 1 but ended up losing 5 - 4.

I watch the Amazing Race but missed it last night. I actually like it better than Survivor this season.

Amazing Race is better than Survivor this season.
Last night the Harvard girls, Eve & Heather got booted. They cheated on the home stretch, then tried to convince themselves they weren't cheating. They thought they'd made it, but got caught later, and got Das Boot.
I kept thinking when they were convincing themselves they weren't cheating, "Oh, my God, I bet they're democrats!"

Robb started it. For some reason he was upset because Ken told him the truth about voting Steph off when everyone else had lied to him. Go figure. Lots of bleeps. Like the Rob of last season this Robb just had to say it-"I'm not (bleep) stupid!" What is it with guys named Rob on Survivor?

Ken and Robb took a walk later and Robb got straightened out. No, Ken did not pound him into the ground like a tentstake, (that would have been more fun) they just talked and Ken made a profound remark about Robb, he said, "He's just young" No duh. Do they put those twenty something’s in there for comic relief? Was I ever that young? But I digress.

Chewy Gum had their own problems. As you may remember, last week the not so bright bunch lost their boat. They now decide, (what, two -three days later?) that their boat might have gotten caught on a little island across the bay. So the guys swim across for a look. Brian can swim fairly well, Clay took along a float and Ted, well, he made it back. No boat though. I could have told them that. And just how hard is it to make a raft? Like I said, not so bright.

Anyway the reward challenge actually looked like it might be fun to play and I must remember it for the company picnic. It consisted of two giant slingshots, two balls and a bunch of sticks with baskets nailed on the end. Two of the team launched the balls and the two teams scrambled to catch them with their basket sticks. Robb made four catches and actually did very well. I guess he is not such a bad guy as long as he is not talking. 5 to 4 Soup Jive wins and gets lots of lovely Thai Food. And now I will have to make a two-hour drive to the nearest Thai Restaurant because they made me hungry.

"...and then he gets voted out after crying like a baby."

(In my best Tom Hanks voice) Hey Rob...

Dude...

First rule of the game,

there is no Crying in Survivor!

the tribe has spoken....

Buh bye!!! Bitchin!

Me too. Although it is hard to find contestants to root for. I hated the whiny chicks, glad they were caught. I can't believe they didn't go back and walk it!

But I didn't like the couple who came in last either. Lots of the teams just seem more nasty than they need to be. I like the twins because everyone hates them.

SO glad Robb is gone!! I thought for sure it would be Shi-An! But they really stabbed Rob in the back, I think. Merge next week? Gosh, this seems to be going quickly!

No, they're lawyers.

Heather and Eve are recent graduates of Harvard Law School. They'll do what it takes to forge an advantage. “Hopefully, the public perception of us will be two very competent, strong; spontaneous, fun women, but we could come off as bitchy, rude and loud,” they say. (CBS bio)

I agree with you, however I believe that this guy truly in the end realized just how lucky he was (win or lose) to get a chance to go to Thailand & see something that most of us will never get to see. As much as I hated this guy in the begining & even at the begining of last nights show when he was giving Ken so much $hit. In the end I almost felt sorry for him and when he was voted out he bowed out with a little class which I did not think he had in him.

I imagine that after eating nothing but weeds & shellfish & itty bitty bannanas for weeks, I would have eat the food & the flies with no problems.

I liked the flag thing. I knew that sook chai got in trouble when they started taking singles at 14, though.
