Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
You mean you have family members left that you haven't turned in yet?? You're slipping old man. Pssst, I heard your paperboy isn't paying taxes on his income, will that help?
I am sure that no one would truly celebrate your departure, and no one would be more saddened than I.
If it has the slightest chance of persuading you to stay on, I feel I should point out that *I* regard you as a worthy person who should remain. I think you a person of good character and informed opinions. I think merely that this bickering, as exemplified by this thread and the If Only thread, has gotten out of hand and is taking turns which is appealing to people's lesser angels rather than their better angels. Bloodletting begets bloodletting, and sometimes it is difficult to staunch the flow.
I would say this - that if anyone was to cheer your departure, I am sure that there are many others like myself who would be saddened and disheartened by it. I am sure also that it would also only increase the emnity on this board, because those who would smirk at such an event, would find that those who did not, would be less than pleased.
Best Regards, Ivan
I did indeed offer to leave.
I am releasing you from the promise you made to me, meaning, I don't recall any such post. Peace.
He's my snitch. BTW would you freepmail me your exact location so I can send you a card?
My sincere thanks.
Regards, Ivan
You and Sir Gawain can take turns. ;)
Regards, Ivan
Although I'd welcome you helping me get rid of it in the approved way.
Now that would be worth the price of admission!!!
Regards, Ivan
It's fine to tolerate the back and forth of Bush admirers, neutrals and haters, but when it is time to elect a president, it gets serious.
We can see what Ralph Nader did to Al Gore and learn a lesson. But these no-one-is-ever-good-enough group would rather cling to their so-called vote of conscience than keep a very liberal Democrat out of the White House. For my taste, that's no different than a Tom Daschle or Dick Gephardt. A blockade is the same regardless of what it calls itself.
So, in essence, we almost have two opposing parties here. It's always assumed that we are basically on the same page, but we're not. In many cases our goals are completely opposite.
Come election 2004, many of these 3rd party-ites will still be bashing Bush and working against his election. Please tell me what the difference is between them and Terry McAuliffe?
Kumbaya may be sung today, but the slings and arrows are stashed close by......no doubt about it.
I am sure the honourable Mr. Paine will indeed do so.

Well there went my pointy hat. Foiled again.
There can be no doubt that differences of opinion will remain. And we may thank God for it. If we all agreed on everything then I am sure we would all agree - this place would be insufferably dull. Yet it is possible to envision that debate being done in a civil manner, in which respect for the other person is remembered. Disagreement makes this place as lively as it is. Conducting it in a civilised manner will make sure that we retain respect for each other once the debate is concluded.

I would hope that it doesn't result in a CiC named Hillary Clinton. That would be a complete and utter nightmare, in my opinion. My worst one.
As always, a pleasure. ;)
Best Regards, Ivan
It's most troubling to me that people who claim they want to return this country to its founding principles will again and again vote for people who have no intentions of doing that.
Democrat/Republican, they're both going to get you to the same place, one's just going to do it quicker.
