Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.

I don't know - I see a lot of gnats too. Is it hot in here too?
To: nunya bidness
... they could care less. In that case they care a lot. Perhaps you meant to say "... they couldn't care less." (Less is the opposite of more.)
To: Jolly Rodgers
The electorate did not want campaign finance reform, the anti-patriot act, or federalization of the airport screeners.By it's level of apathy, it does want this crap.
To: ClancyJ
Sure clancy, 'generalities'.
Now, if you please; -- backpedal your mealy mouth elsewhere.
To: Cultural Jihad; John Robinson
You're right. One more reason for an edit button with a 48 hour time limit.
To: ClancyJ
Just wee bit, from paltry inceniary missles, which fall far short of their objective. :-)
To: FreeReign
What ever happened to that double-p1unched ballot theory in PB? Didn't they all have Gore as one of the punches -- ya know, Gore/Bush, Gore/Buchanan, Gore/* ...... The info on that just kind of faded away, even here at FR. It seems our new administration is more interested in "moving on" than in administering justice. The past is now conveniently tucked under the carpet.
To: nunya bidness
We see it often enough, the incorrect use of the term 'could care less.' Sorry to interject a petty issue into the otherwise well-rounded discussion going on here.
To: Cultural Jihad
You are right, but it is just a figure of speech.
I know a man named Leslie, and also one named Morely.

We all complain about the RINOs in Congress, but forget they are elected by a RINO constituency.Right on target. Folks always talk about pols betraying voters - we are up the creek because pols know exactly what the average voter wants.
Just as it is the job of a businessman to make money, not widgets - it's the job of the politician to get elected, not to keep people free.
Successful pols win because they back things such as the income tax, handgun control, Social Security, Medicare, etc... A winning politician knows how to please his customers.

By it's level of apathy, it does want this crap. Do you want it? I don't, and I'm not apathetic about it. On the other hand, I'm not interested in ending up like the leftist protesters who got a taste of Bush's compassionate conservatism recently in Portland.

Another important consideration, Pardie: If we are against corruption in government, then we ought to also be against the corruption of the electorate.
To: Syncro
Hehe.
To: Senator Pardek
True. I honestly think this fall is going to be a real eye opener.
If more democrats get in to office while we're at war then, I'd say, the writing is on the wall.
And after watching Janet Reno in a debate tonight I felt a chill.

It IS hot on this thread... The hypocrisy is fairly dripping off some posters here:

Victimhood from this day forward SHOULD mean that ALL are treated the same.
When a poster violates the privacy of another - he/she should be reprimanded - but it does not need to be public destruction of a person's reputation that goes on to become a feud.
All of this could be handled better if we all took personal responsibility for how we treat other posters. Maybe each of us should speak up when we see a discourse getting out of line and serve as the reminder that maybe it is time to cool it or go to the "smoky room".
There is a degree of the soap opera in reading these flaming wars - we get addicted.
But, we are hurting people and hurting ourselves as others see us being ill-tempered, mean-spirited, petty and vindictive to our fellow posters.
To: Senator Pardek
I don't think it has anything to do with providing what people want. Rather they are extremely skilled at manufacturing crises and using the scare tactic. Occasionally the electorate grows a backbone and calls them, like Washington state did when it pitched Speaker of the House Tom Foley out on his ear. He made all kinds of threats and dire warnings, but people were sick of it and there were still enough rural inhabitants with principles rather than political savvy to vote their conscience.
To: nopardons
Geezzz .. is this thing still going??
Ok .. I'll bite .. what's the topic this time and what did Bush do wrong??

On the other hand, I'm not interested in ending up like the leftist protesters who got a taste of Bush's compassionate conservatism recently in Portland. Then don't throw rocks at the Presidential motorcade. Sheesh. "There I was minding my own business, studying the physics of projectiles when Slam! I was knocked to the ground by a JBT! Woe is poor, innocent me! Arrested merely for relating with a clod of earth!"
To: Mo1
Boringly so without anything new; just the same old regurgitated propaganda slogans, from the political naifs and malcontents.

It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now.Not really. It's still his site.
Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to.
Not really. Imagine if he didn't.
Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
Seems about right.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills
This is one of the biggest problems with FR: people come here to exercise their verbal skills and to win arguements, regardless of the principles involved.
... it's worth supporting.
I'll drink to that.
Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
It's not so wounded. Just a few people throwing hissy fits because they can't do whatever they want. It's happened before and it'll happen again. You'll see.
