We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]
Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
The US Navy confirmed it has issued orders for heavy lift sea transport for the Red Sea, Reuters reports.
Iran's President is saying Washington is creating "war like" tension.
IBM announces the layoffs of over 15,000.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
We had little, but had all.
Oh, such wisdom in those words, lysie! So true and so sad!
You have really sparked some memories for all of us, I suspect.
In our neighborhood were kids of all ages ..... and there were summer nights of catching lightning bugs and playing hide and seek ......
..... catching June bugs and tying a string around their legs and letting them fly around before setting them loose ......
..... playing Mother May I and Red Rover (now banned in many schools) and hopscotch and cops & robbers or cowboys & Indians ......
...... looking at the Venus fly traps that grew wild next to a small creek up the street (they grow wild only within about a 50-mile radius of where I grew up) .....
..... playing marbles and trading baseball cards ..... riding bikes and roller skating ......
..... such innocence we had!
And so much better off we were for it.
First graders know more now than I did when I got married ..... *sigh*
As you said, we didn't have the material things ...... but what we had was priceless!
In the many lean years ... my Mom actually convinced me that toast points ... toasted and sliced Wonder Bread... served with stewed tomatoes... was a feast fit for a member of royalty ...
I agreed ... 'cuz it filled me up, after a long day bikin' all over the place ... fittin' my bike with playing cards in the spokes ... so it would make a clackity-clack-clack noise as I traveled through my world, back then .... which included Old Joe ... who owned the newsstand on the corner and always saved a quarter for me ... I would pull up, on my bike ... he would palm me the quarter, and I would go off to the fruit stand, in the Summer ... the candy store in Winter ... and bring him back a peach or a fudge square, depending ... in return ... he always fixed my bike ... put new inner tubes in the tires ... adjusted the handles and seat ...
You've brought to me lasting things, this night ... lysander ... I can not thank you enough ...
Small miracles, too ... for I have not thought of Old Joe in years ... and now he has made it to the net .... something which would have surely amazed him!
The father read a statement in Spanish, which was translated for him, thanking all the official groups and Governor Perry, but especially all the people who came up to them and hugged them and tried to help. He said this was why this is a wonderful country. And then in English, he said "God bless America."
The mother, who has both hands bandaged from being dragged while trying to stop the kidnapper, spoke in English and was most appreciative and wanted to especially thank the high school boy, Robert Todd (?) for holding onto the car and even trying to break the window with his fists, during which he was injured. She said that he is a hero and deserves a medal.
This made me feel happy about our country, and I thought you would appreciate it.
I appreciate that I came to your mind, Miss Marple ... and I have made the wise choice to not go to the dark side ... this night ... I would stand the very real chance of being banned ...
Personally, I think he was a mental case and I have no sympathy at all. Bah.
It really upsets me that there are people like that on FR ..... that we all may be painted with that same brush. Many people don't realize what a diverse group are those of us who call ourselves conservative. I certainly hope that no one thinks that those jerks speak for all of us.
I love Marc Racicot, who is the classiest RNC chair I can remember.
Just some excerpts from the CNN article.......
Nancy Crystal Chavez let out a soft cry as her mother, Margarita, picked her up from a baby carrier. She peeked up at her mother, her crying giving way to contentment....As the mother spoke, a smile spread across the infant's face and she raised a hand, touching her mother's cheek.
His wife is from the small town where we lived for so many years and where our children grew up ..... in fact, she was a friend of daughter-child's and a member of our church, though we have pretty much lost contact with her ........ *sigh*
We still get the twice-a-week newspaper from that town and the birth announcement is in the edition we got today.
The girl was really wild growing up ...... and a Class A snob ...... but she's changed drastically and is now studying to go in the ministry.
Are you still at work waiting ..... and waiting?
And what's the latest on Jacob?
And pretty good news on Jacob. My sister-in-law called this morning, she took him in yesterday afternoon to the pediatrician, and they did more blood tests on him. His hematacrit rose a couple of points on its own, his other tests were better than they were on Monday. The dr said he didn't want to raise their hopes, but it looks as if Jacob might be fighting this off on his own. The dr also looked at the blood, and there were very few fragmented red blood cells, which means that his body isn't chomping through them as quickly as they first thought. Jacob goes back on Friday for the same blood tests, and to have his blood pressure checked. My s-i-l said that Jacob was crawling around on the floor while she was on the phone, pulling out books from the bookcase. He was smiling, and wasn't so pale. This is such good news.
The dr also was very hopeful that IF Jacob fought off this episode by himself, it might never recur again. This is a true miracle if it happens. We're all praying that he won't have to go through it again.
