AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 570) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | August 13, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 08/13/2002 4:06:06 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

The Justice Department has annouced that, beginning September 11, 2002, thousands of foreign visitors, mostly from Mideast and Arab countries, will be fingerprinted and photographed at the border.

Back in June, it is now being revealed, Martha Stewart approached a House panel through an aide. She asked the Panel to issue a statement clearing her. The spokesman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee said they were "stunned."

There is a report circulating on Drudge that says the United States will, if necessary, seize Arab airports by force to allow an offensive against Iraq. Diplomatic sources, according to the Drudge report, say that Arab countries should take America's war preparations very seriously.

A high-ranking Administration official has confirmed the United States received reports yesterday from an unnamed foreign government that Al Qa'eda was planning to hit major United States targets. Some locations suggested were the Golden Gate Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge, and a "major landmark" in Chicago. The official was careful to point out these were not confirmed "targets" but rather possibilities.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Morning Miss Marple!

I made the mistake of tuning in NPR this morning, for a change, and they mentioned the Economic Summit. They had to get in that Bush's critics called it a PR Stunt at the end of their report!

I get so disgusted with NPR. (And they wonder why its been years since I've contributed.)

I refuse to listen to them, even for classical music. I prefer getting a CD.

It also has been a long time since I watched PBS. The Antique Road Show was about the only thing I watched, and since they have the new host I am not so enamored of it. We tend to watch The History Channel and Fox more than anything...although my husband does like The Travel Channel. Once in a while I will watch HGTV.

Mostly, I like to read and be on the computer.

Well, this is a lot of bandwidth wasting, as ISB would say. LOL!

After watching The Fellowship of the Ring, I finally figured out where you got your screen name. Duh!

The next movie is going to be even better, which is saying a lot!

Yes, I have been a fan of Tolkien ever since the 8th grade (more years ago than I care to contemplate!!!) Our 8th grade English teacher felt reading was critically important to success (go figure) so he introduced us to the world of Tolkien with The Hobbit and LOTR. We would actually spend time in class each week either reading to ourselves or having him read to us from the books and then we would dicuss the chapters so he could help gauge our comprehension (another novel concept!)

I remember that teacher like it was yesterday, and have to give him a lot of the credit for my love of reading.

Sadly, today, he would probably be fired for deviating from the school sanctioned lesson plan...

And I too am anxiously awaiting the release of the second movie!

Good morning, NY.

Doc is a series with Billy Ray Cyrus. The show is about as unPC as you can get. Prayer and accountability are mentioned often. *gasp* :-)

Monk is about a detective.

Yes, I saw Sean's show last night. Mansoor went ballistic about x42....however...he really lost some of my respect because he admitted that he would vote for 97 AND x42 if allowed. :(

We still do tune in to the classical music during the dinner hour, but not often any more.

I also used to love listening to Garrison Keilor's Prarie Home Companion, but over the years I have soured with his attack on conservative politics.

Rivendell... I am trying to hunt down my son's trilogy, even as we speak, and will read them.

I read where Tolien and C.S. Lewis were good friends, and very devout in their faith, but the relationship was strained for a while as Lewis thought Tolkien was stealing his ideas. Eventually their friendship was patched up!

I am waiting anxiously for it's release as well. I have the video, and I was struck again by how carefully they detailed the sets and costumes. It is a beautiful movie.

I had a high school teacher (English lit) who would assume the personna of a person from the era we were studying. We were to argue our point of view against that character, be he Roundhead, Cavalier, 18th Century Rationalist, Victorian reformer, etc.

It was really interesting and made one THINK about opinions that one takes for granted.

Yeah...

I don't understand that about Mansoor. Why he would vote for Clinton again, or any democrat is beyond me. They slammed him big time when he contested their arguments about getting Bin Laden. They called him a liar, smeared his reputation, but he continues to show allegiance.

Hello?....

However, Monsoor DID say he would not donate a dime to the DNC until things were admitted. Still, I can't figure the voting part out. :(

"how is your son this a.m.???"

Nasty virus. For this kid to skip work AND ask to be seen by a doctor I knew he felt pretty lousy.

When I got up he was sleeping and still is so I don't know whether he's feeling better yet or not........

The rapid strep test came back negative. We'll see what the 48 hour test says.

When I got back from ExpressCare with him, girlchild was not doing well.....very emotional......worrying about the future, bemoaning the pasat............sigh........hoping it was just a "down" day....we are all entitled to those, and I told her that. She knows that, but worries that HER "down days" are harbingers of her personal demons coming back to haunt her again.........

Hope today brings better things for her as well.............

Yes, they did a very good job focusing on the details, which enhaced the overall feel of the movie as remaing true to the original story.

I have to admit to being a trifle annoyed however, with the fact that they released a 2 DVD set now and then find out while watching them that a 4 DVD set will be released in Nov that will contain a large amount of deleted scenes - i.e. a "Directors cut" which I was anxiously hoping would be on these DVDs.

Oh well, guess I'll have to decide if I want them badly enough to spend the money...again!

Well, I just checked on them both, and they both are doing better.:)

When DO I get to stop worrying???

Never mind, I know the answer.;^)

Boychild had a cat sitting right on his chest as he lay there on his back sleeping. It was so cute; almost like kitty was keeping watch.:)

Hey Mozie,

I am glad to see your children are on the mend.

We've been pretty fortunate during the summer. No real big illnesses for the wee ones.

Raining and cool here. No trip to Green Bay today. We'll be heading to Sturgeon Bay on Friday.

Here is something to liven up the thread a little:

The Cleveland Indians' Class-A minor league team, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (!), has declared August 14th as "Jim Trafficant Night" -- all hairpiece-wearers and sons of truck drivers admitted free!!

LOL. How about this one.

A Missouri Deputy pulled a car over on I-57 about 2 miles north of the Missouri - Arkansas state line. When the Deputy asked the driver why he was speeding, the driver answered that he was a magician and a juggler and he was on his way to Branson to do a show that night and didn't want to be late. The deputy told the driver he was fascinated by juggling, and ask if the driver would do a little juggling for him that he wouldn't give him a speeding ticket. The driver told the deputy that he had sent all of his equipment on ahead and didn't have anything to juggle. The deputy told him that he had some flares in the trunk of his squad car and asked if he could juggle them. The juggler stated that he could, so the deputy got three flares out and handed them to the juggler. The juggler then lit the flares and started to juggling.

While the man was doing his juggling act, a car pulled up behind the squad c ar, a drunk got out and watched the performance briefly. He then went over to the squad car, opened the rear door and got >in. The deputy observed him doing this and went over to his squad car, opened the door and asked the drunk what he thought he was doing. The drunk replied, "Might as well take my keister on to jail, there's no way in h*ll I could pass that test!"
