In college, no one believed me that the US had a WW2 ace named Bong. But i read a book about him and was surprised at the lack of knowledge and interest in WW2 in the 70's.

In the State of Washington the Government has 430,000 acres in an isolated area, fifteen miles northwest of Pasco. The settlement there, which now has a population of 17,000, consisting of plant operators and their immediate families, is known as Richmond. The nickname of Richland High School athletic teams is "Bombers".

Gee. No sneering. No condescending attitude. Nothing rude about the military. Doesn't seem like the NY Times at all.

All along, it has been a race with the enemy. Ironically enough, Germany started the experiments, but we finished them. Can you imagine today's NYT referring to America as "we"?
