Sweet....that dang cat o'mine, Tux, just fell off the chair he likes to sleep on!!! I had just looked at him moments ago and he was really knockin' em out. I thought I heard a noise coming from that direction.....and I did....I was watching him slide off the chair!!! Whack! His head hit the floor! Kerplunk! Down came the body!

He just got up and walked around the chair and come over by me--on the floor! I'm still ticked at his little antic this afternoon....planted his little claw prints down bare thighs!!

Tonya Harding admits she drove drunk

Monday, August 5, 2002

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- Figure skater Tonya Harding admitted Monday that she drove drunk as part of a deal that lets her avoid a conviction if she stays out of trouble for five years.

As part of the deferred prosecution deal, Harding must complete intensive outpatient alcohol counseling for two years, said her lawyer, Steven Thayer. If she stays out of trouble for five years, the charges will be dismissed, he said.

"It's an opportunity for her to take a positive step to address her problem with alcohol. She's been participating in counseling for the past couple weeks and making good progress," Thayer said.

Harding, 31, was driving her 1977 Dodge pickup on the early morning of April 20 when it veered off the road and crashed into a ditch. Neither Harding nor her 23-year-old male passenger was hurt.

Harding claimed the power steering went out on the truck, but she failed a field sobriety test administered by a sheriff's deputy, and her blood-alcohol level was measured at .16 percent -- twice the legal limit in Washington.

At the time of the incident, Harding was still on probation from an assault on her boyfriend two years ago.

Harding spent three days in jail and served an additional 10 days on a work crew as punishment for the assault, in which she whacked her then-boyfriend, Darren Silver, with a hubcap during a drunken argument at the rural home they shared.

Harding had less than a month left to go on her two-year probation, a condition of which was that she consume no alcohol. After the DUI charge, she said she assumed she'd already served the probation.

If the judge in Camas-Washougal Municipal Court finds sufficient evidence that Harding drank, he could sentence her to more than 5 1/2 months in jail on the probation violation, said Assistant City Attorney Shawn MacPherson. The judge had suspended 167 days of her 180-day jail term back on May 18, 2000.

Harding and her lawyers are hoping the judge will take her alcohol counseling into account when he considers the case Thursday, Thayer said.

After the hearing on Monday, Harding told reporters that she was pleased with the results.

"I have a problem and now I'm going to take care of it. ... It's actually good for me," she said.

Great!! It's hot here.. gonna be 100.
The kids from Washington walked out of the airport into the 97 degrees and humidity yesterday and staggered backward. The temp was only like 59 degrees when they left home.
