Sorry folks I don't have Jolly's Ping List... but I do have my own. Maybe Jolly will pop in and send a ping to people on his list.

Maybe adding your yellow timeline & theories list, once a week might be better...like on Monday's and then include a link to the weekly thread that has the timeline in it in your Daily Thread.

Just a suggestion... as the Timeline & other stuff is sooooooooo long and hard on the eyes (the yellow).

http://www.ksl.com/dump/news/cc/special/science/snakes.htm

Snake warning article on KSL's website. Apparently the snakes love the drought conditions in Utah.

Another venomous snake in Utah is the nightsnake.

He either didn't think of it or didn't know the police knew that these items had been stolen from the Smarts.

Criminals make mistakes like that. It's how they get caught.

Maybe this will turn out to be a simple case. A person familiar with the neighborhood comes into a house at night, walks upstairs to the bedrooms, finds one with girls in it, and takes one of the girls. Rapes and kills her. Hides the body. Elizabeth selected because she awakened, or by pure chance. No ransom required because money was not the motive. No associates required.

Kind of like the Runnion case, except in the middle of the night, with no witnesses to see him or the car.

Maybe the perp got lucky and found an unlocked door at the Smart house. Knowledge of the where the bedrooms are doesn't require a floor plan -- just go upstairs, in virtually any house of more than one story. It doesn't take much effort to watch the comings and going of a large family, to discover whether they have girls.

Maybe it was a crime of opportunity and Elizabeth and her family weren't specifically targeted because of anything notable about them.

Yes, I know that the perp didn't enter the Runnion's house. The point I'm making is that Avila did not have close contacts with the Runnion family, and the perp in the Smart case may not have either.

Does anyone know whether the abductor in the Polly Klass case had any prior contacts with the family? Did he choose the house and the girl at random?

Nevermind, I just read that Davis chose a suburban street at random and went from door to door until he found a house with an unlocked door.

Maybe this is what happened in the Smart case, and that's as fancy as it gets.

Today's article about the Smart case in the Trib:
http://www.sltrib.com/2002/aug/08042002/sunday/758724.htm

Has to do with psychics flooding the police with tips. One of them uses a douser, normally used to find water, and has offered to find Liz.

Sounds like the police are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It was you that posted about last night's Geraldo, right? I hope so, anyway....

Do you remember Boylan saying that the first interviewer of MK somehow misinterpreted what MK was trying to tell LE?

I believe she was talking about what the perp was wearing. Didn't Gerealdo ask about the changes in the hat description especially, right before Boylan's saying the above?

I wonder what else was misunderstood or misinterpreted and if that might have caused a delay in finding Elizabeth.

I hadn't heard this exact misinterpretation story before...anyone else?

I heard this before.

This is one of the main reasons, I think they should have brought a sketch artist in from the beginning. If MK was thinking golf cap and the police were thinking baseball cap, then as soon as MK saw the sketch, she could have said that it was incorrect because it was a different type of cap.

Fox News does't have a link up yet with the partial transcript from last night's Geraldo, but I see Boylan said something similar on H&C on 8/1/2002.

"BOYLAN:
{snip}
One of the problems and perhaps early on, you recall that there was a description of a baseball cap. And then later on, it was thought to have been a golf cap. And that changed. And there was a press release to announce this new information. And it made it appear as if her description was changing. And that's not the case at all. It was a matter of misunderstanding what it was that she was trying to convey. She's been extremely consistent."

Also, Ed Smart was kind of hesitant when he was questioned about saying MK recognized the voice of the abductor. He said something like, there's recognizing and then there's recognizing the voice as someone you can pinpoint. (paraphrased)

If that's the case, everyone MK's ever heard is suspect. IMO I don't think MK has given any absolutes as far as voice recognition.

•Sandude, thanks for the reply re: Tom Smart. I didn't know if stopping church attendance was something that could lead to suspension or what in the LDS religion. Sounds like what happens in most organized religious venues.

•Jengalo, I got jumped on in the van Dam threads immediately as a disruptor because I had a recent joining date. That all happened when I changed my ISP, lost my password, Jim Rob had changed servers and so on and so on. Now I have a little blurb up on my homepage about being here since 1998 so I don't get jumped again. LOL.

To understand the disruptor tag being thrown out at new people you'd have had to have been here in the Clinton haydays. While the DC meet was going on I was one of the members manning FR as we were being innundated with Clinton lackies trying to take over the forum. IT was really something you would have had to have seen to believe. If the Clinton staff had worked as hard for the country as they did to disrupt FR they might have done something good during those years.

BTW, I doted on Quidam's every word....would that his predictions had come true.

•Neenah, I meant to post yesterday my sorrow that you went through such a horrible time. I hope things have worked out for the best.

You're right, the "tapping on the shoulder" is interesting and brings in a whole new set of questions.
