You are so trendy in your international adventure horsie. I would love to be one those backpacking touristy people there with my camera (for about 3 hours anyway). *L* Despite appearances, I have limited lung capacity, and don't enjoy the extreme heights. Mt Rainier at Paradise is too much for me for long, and it's just a baby mountain at 14,000+ feet.

When you are at a place where they have to haul in water, life is hard, but when you reach a place they have to haul in air, life is almost not worth living

LOL! "Almost" being the key word.

Cool Loddy!! The peak with the sun on the snow is Huascaran, ...I'm sitting on the left of the photo just where you see the brown hill...then you go straight up. There are two ranges forming a valley which is where Huaraz sits. The range on the right, (east) is the Cordillera Blanca and is the main spine of the Andes. The range on the left is the Cordillera Negra...we don't get a lot of water on our side of the valley. I'll send Valerie a couple of photos and maybe she can post them.

Nice photo Loddy...I didn't realize you were in the area?? Maybe we could have a Cuscuna beer some afternoon. I wish you were here...this is a really nice part of South America.

I think horsie read his assignment wrong -- there's been a cluster of quakes in the Panama-Costa Rica region yesterday, including this one at 6.5
Horsie is supposed to be in Panama, not Peru.

Hola Nully,

I'm in the area where in 1970 a huge quake hit the area. A big piece of ice fell off of Huascaran and created a landslide that travelled down slope at high velocity and buried a town. Over 16,000 people were buried in the town of Jungay, and incredibly, over 70,000 people were killed by the quake in the entire valley. Huaraz, the city in Loddy's photo was 80% destroyed.
Nice place.
