What year? I am just interested if condensers spring leaks after a couple years or if this is a scam. I was told A/C systems do not need recharging if they do not have a leak somewhere.

Lotsa scam artists out there, but condensers do spring leaks. A condenser is just a radiator, but it is lots of little tubes brazed together. With the vibration of the car, the joints are torqued and get work hardened and brittle. That's the leak.

I have had several cars that developed a freon leak so small it couldn't be found and I would have to refill it every 6 months to a year. If it is a large enough leak to drain the system fairly quickly, they should be able to show it to you with a butane torch. The torch will flare when brought near the leak. It is a standard way of finding the leaks.
