At the end he thanks GWB and the credits begin by thanking Karen Hughes for being the only one who took him seriously and gave him a chance to get started.

Hmmm. Betty, do you happen to know if this boy is homeschooled? That may be why Karen Hughes DID take him seriously; she was homeschooling her son on the campaign trail!

Sorry SuziQ, I couldn't find anything to indicate that Chaille is homeschooled. Just a couple of snipets of interest...

A Spielberg in the making ... Chaille Stovall with President Bush.(then Gov.)
Chaille is 10yrs. old here.

Chaille Stovall's first documentary, Boyz In Tights, was screened in 1998. Since then he has interviewed George W. Bush and been evicted from a US Democratic party convention for asking the wrong kind of questions. [He did get some great interviews before they tossed him out] He is 13 years old.

Earlier this year, Stovall gave an address on creativity to a technology conference in California. In June (during school holidays), he will direct his first full-length movie, Camp Grizzly, making him Hollywood's youngest director.

That Stovall is a single child may have added to his self-possession, but he is no brat. His two favourite pieces of celluloid are 2001: A Space Odyssey and Drop Dead Gorgeous. He adores jokes, practical or otherwise. His conversation is dramatised with the sounds of explosions. [snip] Link

[snip] From NYTimes Arts and Leisure: For months, Chaille was denied access to the campaign's stars. He hounded different candidates' headquarters, calling 10 to 12 times a week. "No one believed that a 10- year-old kid was making a documentary for HBO," he said.

"My calls were not returned," he continued. "If someone did call, their response was, `And how old are you?' " His first big break came when the office of the Texas governor and Republican candidate George W. Bush agreed to a sit-down interview.

"As a mom, you're always impressed when you see other parents supporting their children and helping them realize their dream," said Karen P. Hughes, counselor to President Bush. "It was clear that Chaille was making the decisions on how to conduct the interview. Both the president and I were very impressed."

Soon after his meeting with Mr. Bush in Austin, Tex., Chaille got interviews with Al Gore, Alan Keyes, Elizabeth Dole, Bill Bradley and other candidates. [snip] Link
