Looks like the Freeoples all went away. I went to get groceries, now I'm grilling some halibut and munching on salad. Such exciting news, eh?

I had the same kind of environment at home that you did..autocratic dad and a strict mom ( except where my younger brother was concerned ..he was her " baby" and was spoiled till the end of her life)..

I don't understand parents who make deals with the kids either. Bedlum reigns supreme then.

My dad wasn't tremendously autocratic, in fact, he was kind of a soft touch. He worked long hours, wasn't home that much, so when he was home, he'd give in to us much too often. Left my mom to be the disciplinarian. Although, I can remember more than one time when I pushed too far, and he paddled my butt. As I said, it was much deserved.

I can remember getting paddled only twice..once for misbehaving in chruch..my younger brother was always the cause of the fussing..his pushing and shoving but then because he was the favorite, my older brother and I got punished too. The second time was when the younger one went out of the yard after being told not to. Then the older brother went after him. I went and got mom. What happened..we all got paddled again..the younger for diobeying in the first place, the older brother for going after him and me for getting mom.. I could never win..

Then there are the parents that feel guilty and give in

One would think she would have learned her lesson by now ... but noooooooooooooooooooooo

And how often are the kids held to their part of the bargain? Example: I will buy you that toy if will promise to clean your room when we get home. What BS. The deal is you clean your room because it is what you're supposed to do. It hasn't been done? Oh well. Too bad. So sad. No extra privileges without some responsibility.
