A federal grand jury is investigating how the Washington, D.C., chapter of the United Way spent donations, the charity's lawyer said yesterday, just four months after the charity announced that a special audit had found nothing significant amiss with its finances or management practices.

Among the issues the grand jury is understood to be examining are repeated salary advances and credit card charges by Oral Suer, who was the charity's president for 27 years until he was succeeded by Norman O. Taylor in January 2001. After Mr. Suer retired, he received a $6,000-a-month consulting contract and continued to use one of the American Express platinum cards that the charity issues to its executives.

United Way? what a scam. The Boy Scouts should be happy not to recieve donations from these bastards.

FOFLOL. As you can see it is still in the White hosue. Nancy Reagan raised nearly a million dollars through private contriutions to refurbish the White House. She worked with designers from Lenox China on that stately and elegant pattern. I've forgotten how many place settings they ordered but I remember the total cost was a little over $200,000 and the press went nuts. It mattered not that it was paid for by private funds they labeled her extravagant and luxury loving.
