AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 536) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | July 10, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 07/10/2002 4:11:28 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

WorldCom announced they will decide within the next three weeks whether they have to file for bankruptcy protection. Analysts seem to think it is a foregone conclusion. It would be the largest such filing in US history, doubling the size of the Enron folding.

An Al Qa'eda audio tape has a spokesperson assuring the world The Evil One and Mullah Omar are alive and well.

A group of parents in Oakland, CA, are suing the school district for violation of the Establishment Clause. No, this time it is not Christianity that is at question. The action focuses on what has popped up in the news of late about certain practices in public schools in Kantafordia. According to The Washington Times, the parents filed suit because the schools, after September 11, "encouraged students to wear Muslim robes, adopt Islamic names, and stage make-believe pilgrimages to Mecca to learn about the faith."

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Hey Mozie...

Great Day!

Just got the latest SI, and P.J. O'Rourke has a column that it just a stitch. It concerns sports players wanting to go into politics. Some of my favorite snippets:

* Nor are jocks easy prey to libidinous temptations with aides or interns. Monica Lewinsky may have looked like Catherine Zeta Jones to a lard-butt who played saxaphone in the school band. To even a relief pitcher on the Norfolk Tides, Monica would look like Elsie, the Borden's cow.

* If legislative acumen , coherent global strategy, and communication skills were what got you into the Majors, Jimmy Carter would have been cut from his T Ball team.

*Sportswriters are better than political writers. Is this the New Republic you have in your hands? Compare a David Broder column with a column by my colleague Rick Reilly. Rick knows what he's talking about. Nobody knows what Broder is talking about. Plus people actually read Rick Reilly.

Get it if you get a chance! Fun to read, plus it features a short article on Paul Hourning! (The Golden Boy!)

Then there's Milwaukee, and the All Star Game that never was. All last week people from the local media were all talking about how this game would showcase Milwaukee, and get rid of that image of Laverne and Shirley, that seems to have plagued our city of gathering waters, for years. (Did you noticed that FOX played the Laverne and Shirley theme song while doing a "fan spot" last night during the game? Aaaaggghhhhh...)

Now we'll be remembered for this debacle of a game. Be careful what you wish for... it may come true!

#236.....Well Molly, I find this 'intent thing' just a little too convenient in this case!

kayak, I can almost (but not quite) see how someone could leave a car....be consumed with stuff of the mind.....and forget the baby.

But Molly, this woman didn't forget they were there......she rolled the windows down a bit for their air, and then left them for 3 hours!!!

Did you see Mansoor Ijaz on the Gibson show....

They were talking how it seems we know the general area Bin Laden and Zawahiri are in ....and the circle is shrinking daily as we watch and listen.

Ijaz said it looks like we are trying to track the couriers(mules) to see where the messages are going..

#238....I think it's really not sinking in to your friends here.....all of us.....that you're really leaving......:(

BTW, if I could, I would send you some of the fresh blueberry muffins with crunchy topping I just made. :)
...in case your uncle doesn't feed you.......

If I run a stop sign and cause an accident in which someone is killed, I can be charged with manslaughter ..... and yet a man forgets his very own precious child ..... and they decided not to charge him with anything! To me, running a stop sign is more understandable than forgetting for an entire day that you didn't drop your child off at day care!!!!!

My heart goes out to the parent who does something like that .... and I'm sure there is no punishment more severe than having to live with the knowledge of what you've done ..... but still ...... when the law just looks the other way I have a problem with it .... especially when some people are punished severely and others are never even charged.

#240...Molly, this wasn't carelessness or neglect.

THIS WAS PURE MEANNESS!!

I can't even imagine this woman letting someone lock her in a car for 3 hot hours!!!

This was pure evil.......not carelessness.

If I had a dog or cat, I wouldn't lock them in a hot car for 3 hours!

Also nix on the CC permits. They're much too easy to get. I got mine in Georgia and all I had to do was be fingerprinnted and pay $35. In Tennessee all you have to do is take a 6 hour course and pass a test. Still to easy to get.

In the words of Joe Lieberman, I find this troubling. It took my husband six months to get his CC permit.

Your house sounds lovely by the way.

Nest time you're in Milwaukee I'll buy you a Schotts beer.

(Assuming I can find one... Otherwise we can take in a real ballgame at Miller Park.... We might even have a winner.)

Sorry - Remembered an errand I needed to run before husband got home.....

Dog - That was a fascinating interview!

I know, I know you 2. Those specific cases are horrible, incomprehensible to people like you and me!

I'm talking about the general principle of intent in the law..

More specific factors are the various local statutes, prosecution and the judges...

Think about this: The past few years has seen a much harder line taken against drunk drivers and any fatalities they cause.

The law was responsive to changing attitudes.

We have an epidemic in n.e. Ohio the past few years of boyfriends shaking their girlfriends' babies to death.

Over time, statutes, judges, juries have held these men to greater and greater accountability.

The same thing may very well happen with these poor children left to roast in hot cars.

You may want to investigate the situation where you are and seek some changes...

A young man in San Jose, CA left his 8 month old baby in the car last summer. He was babysitting and went to his in-laws to play a new computer game with his b-i-l. They are getting ready to put him on trial and the DA in SJ is going for blood.

I think what happened was terrible, and there is really no excuse for that babys death, but this young man (I think he's 21) is ADD and I can imagine that he absolutely, positively did not remember that the baby was with him.

He is devestated, as is his young wife and both of their families. There have been a number of babies left in cars in the Bay Area, and this will be the first one that has been prosecuted.

May sound crazy, but I'm wondering if the DA is going after him because he is white and his wife is Oriental. Or, maybe, this is just a DA looking for a conviction.

Never place your finger inside the trigger guard until you are ready to fire the weapon.

No wonder I keep missing those ducks! (And I used to think that I killed them, but they were too stupid to realize it.)

BWAK!

Boomers
Wacked
All
Konnections?!

The toad-choker which flew though my area last night, knocked out my cable connection ... thus, my blissfully quiet voice, this day ...

Here goes ...

*Prayers* in celebration of the lasting things ... and the honorable ones, too ...the delectably ordinary *joys* which seem so very much sweeter, in these times ...

Yous know there's more ... we need to stay FOCUSED and be mindful to *pray* for patience and insight ... fortitude, too ... throwin' our funny bone out there to be hit, now and again ... is a plan ...

Let's also give a shout out to His majesty ... and our own ability to create some almost on our own ...

and ... lightning bugs ... as my GrandMom used to call them ... all the while maintaining a ,"If he's alive, we'll get him. If he's dead ... we got him...", 'tude ... which is good.

Molly ... our newly minted tree-hugger ... I am there with you! Har! Plus ... I meant every single word ....

I am worried about Yellow Rose ... I have not seen a reply from her in so very long. I hope all is well ...

/john ... with this post ... I hand over ALL my bandwidth to you, dear sir. I want to have lots of you to collect and stuff in my pockets while you are away from us. *grins*

Leaving for Maine early, early, early tomorrow and will be out of touch until after the 26th. So, Molly, when you wonder where I am, I'll be in Maine playing with my grandkiddos.

And since I hate flying, any travel prayers anyone would like to extend tomorrow would be gratefully accepted.
