The Free Republic He-Man Women Hating Club

Posted on 07/06/2002 2:52:05 PM PDT by Hillary's Lovely Legs

Let's just come clean and call Free Republic what it really is.... The He-man Women Hating Club.

Here is a SMALL sampling of the absolute hate for women on this forum. I won't paint all men with a broad brush, because I have known and met some fabulous men here who truly treasure and cherish women, and ***gasp*** even respect them!!!!

So let's clean up our act, shall we fellas? Notice the vile things that are said about women here on a daily basis.

Don't say ..." I really love women, but they are all a bunch of feminazis who screw over men and want their money and kids". It takes two to tangle, guys. All your problems are not our fault.

Well then, the answer is no.

Well, there's a surprise. A conservative who isn't in favor of equality & justice before the law.

Different rules for different people?

I would have answered yes, absolutely, to your question... And look forward to the follow up question regarding equality before the law.

I am a gal and a FReeper, who was not interested getting into the heat yesterday, and I still haven't read the whole thread today.

I would never have written a post like Peanut just did, because I am not bitter towards any "they", men or women. I find a bit of irony in the fact that Peanut, in a post claiming women are individuals and should be judged on their own merits, lumps all men into a group named "they".

I am a single person, never married, no children. I wish I was married, kinda hoped that it would have happened by now. Been in some great relationships and some not so great. Hopefully the next one will be the one! - And hopefully it will last.

I think we have a problem with marriages in this country. I have watched the marriages around me end for little reason, and simple boredom is now a reason to break up a child's home. I think it is sad that "for better or for worse" are now empty words for many.

I don't know entirely how to solve it. I have cringed and sympathized with men who are paying far more than a child "costs" every month to a woman who was bored with him and has set up house with a new man. Of course I have sympathized with women who were betrayed by their man because she no longer looked 25.

But to me, the debate is in the wrong arena, because to me, focusing on the trouble in divorce courts in this country is equivalent to closing the barn door after the horse has run out.

To me, the more important question is whether in this day and age, the idea of lifelong marriages is an unrealistic goal. Until we get there, then arguing about which side is right and which side is wrong will take up our time and never really solve the problem.

I am curious about her answer also.

I just re-read my post above, and wish I would have taken out at least two of the instances where I said "To me"... alas, it was written quickly, and I am still looking for my point. Have you seen it?

First, I am glad you would have answered yes.. I would certainly support you being treated fairly (but justly) in any court of law, anywhere at any time over anything.

Everyone deserves that, irregardless of their sex.

It's not.. but we have so many self absorbed men and women out there that divorce has become an epedimic. They think marriage is supposed to be like Allie McBeal and if you don't have a mercedes for every day of the week, or if your wife doesn't Look just like anna K when she's 50, or if you can't be a doctor, a lawyer AND a parent at the same time then you are in a "failed" marriage..

It's a Covenant before God and it's supposed to last til "death do you part" It's not disposable and it's not all bout money, sex or anything but those vows.

I know some people who still take those wovs seriously, but I think they are now in the minority.

Well, first of all, Allie McBeal isn't married, unless she did that recently. She represents a peson who can't seem to make relationships work... not the standard everyone looks up to. I understand your point, but your analogy is off.

As to your point... I do think the expectations and attention span of people are at the root of it, and society as a whole no longer hates the divorce. Marriages used to have to become worse than the extreme shame of divorce before they ended. Now there is no shame in divorce. People leave as soon as life no longer looks like a Hallmark card. Fatherhood has been reduced to a check. It is a disaster, I just don't know what to do about it.

So what led up to the question you asked Peanut?

Why did you ask about equality under the law? - Where were you going with that?

Good, I meant the perfect image of her.. Everything is wonderful and plush.. People all live their lives five minutes at a time and aren't slaves to little things like reality, etc.

You are right though, I certainly could have picked a better example.

It is sad. 3 of the 4 married couples I know that are my age, are in the process of getting divorced. I think my generation expects marriage to be easy, when in actuality it does require some work.

I started a pretty free-wheeling thread called "Marriage Strike" yesterday. Quite a response. Over 600 posts and still going. This thread we're on now is a spin-off started by HLL. I think that's where Jhoffa was going.

Well, Peanut says she's a real conservative by golly and she wants to judge people on their merits and a bunch of other drivel..

So, I was just wondering if our self appointed Conservative poster child would extend that fairness and Conservatism to Divorce Court.

Like so many other loud mouthed so called defenders of "Conservatism" here fail to do.

Because, I tell you the truth.. I will support you getting a fair deal in court anywhere, anytime. But it seems some of our male bashers here don't approve of that idea when they stand to profit from the bias.

It is sad.

It's God's covenant, but hey.. If your wife snaps at you or your husband doesn't own a yacht then it's okay to go look for someone else.

After all, I mean.. That's what God would want, right?

Translation: She made the s*it up!

It's all part of some sick fantasy where we all really want to kill women. That's fair, so dont you call it "male bashing" because you know you want to kill women! You know you do! Admit it!

Oh I have seen the thread, I know it has gotten long, and I have not had the interest in reading it all the way through because from what I have seen, both sides are saying ugly things about the evils of the opposite sex, and both sides are wrong.

A quick look right now showed me that men were being accused of not growing up and getting rid of their boats and golf games when they got married. Earlier there was debate about the appropriate amount of housework each side should do.

I think the trouble is, these are personal decisions made in any household, that should matter only to those involved. What is ridiculous to me, is that NOW, and conservative men in response, are turning household management into a political issue. "Who is supposed to vacuum?" and "Who is supposed to take out the garbage?" NEVER should have been elevated to a political platform.

A couple has enough on their hands these days, without feeling like helping each other get things done so they can go out on the boat for the afternoon is now a contest of party loyalty. Vacuuming is never a moral dilemma for me.
