A British teenager who thought he had "Love, Honour and Obey" tattooed on his arm in Mandarin received an unpleasant surprise when a waitress in a Chinese restaurant started laughing at him.
Lee Becks, 18, a hairdresser, paid £90 ($230) for the tattoo on his upper right arm and was thoroughly pleased with the result - until he found out it actually read: "At the end of the day, this is an ugly boy."
He realised something was wrong when the waitress started giggling and saying he was obviously trying to make people laugh. Mr Becks pressed her to explain and discovered the ugly truth, it was reported in Metro, a free paper distributed in London.
He returned to the tattoo parlour but found it had closed. "I suspect the tattooist knew he was closing and just wanted to get his own back for some reason," he said.
He keeps the tattoo covered, but on a recent night out he showed it off to friends. A group of Chinese girls began laughing. Mr Becks plans to spend £600 to have the tattoo removed.

Too bad nobody will ever see it - the thread's been moved to "chat".

I bought the DVD. That movie's great. Joe Pantalione is always such a funny creep.

My wife has had some similar laughs at ding-a-lings sporting Chinese characters.

Note to self- never get a tattoo in a language that I can't read.
Ok- I have learned this lesson at this poor sap's expense!

"Love, Honour and Obey" tattooed on his arm in Mandarin...I wanna know what the Mandarin symbols are for "Blonde, Brunette and Readhead". ;-)

Quite a few of the NBA players seem to be sporting the Chinese character-type tattoos. I'd love to know what they say. "I'm a big tall dumb person," maybe?

"At the end of the day, this is an ugly boy." Funny, that's exactly what comes to mind when I see a tattoo on someone.....

Note to self- never get a tattoo in a language that I can't read. My thoughts exactly. Silly man.

LOL, well it is considered low class to have a tattoo anyway.

Used to be considered low class anyway.
I'm having trouble not feeling alien in a popular culture that uses "pimp" as a compliment.
